RCMP Disciplinary Policy
The following document is to be referenced for all disciplinary action.
Policy of Actions 1) Disciplinary action against RCMP members will be carried out internally by members of the RCMP Command Staff, unless the offence is ruled indictable. At that point, the RCMP Commissioner will be contacted. 2) Formal complaints about RCMP members should be made to the commissioner or subordinate command staff members who are designated to deal with public relations.
Disciplinary Action 1) Internal disciplinary action can be any combination of the following… a. Warning b. Suspension (Ask Commissioner) c. Demotion d. Extended Suspension (Ask Commissioner) e. Temporary Removal (Minimum 14 Days) f. Exile from the RCMP
Offences 1) Below are all offences that RCMP members can be disciplined for internally. a. Insubordination b. Uniform Policy Violation c. Internal Conflict (Starting, Instigation, Participation) d. Behavioral Misconduct e. False Arrest f. Substandard Arrest Reports g. Failure to Arise to RCMP Standards h. Disciplinary Violation i. Weapon Abuse j. False Arrest k. Being On-Duty while Suspended
Charges like murder, assault, and other offences may fall under disciplinary policy as well as Criminal Code. In such event, the Internal Affairs, RCMP Commissioner, J2ic's and RCMP will work together.
Appeals 1) A maximum of 1 appeal can be made to the RCMP Commissioner per disciplinary action taken. In an appeal, the member in question must explain why they are appealing, and must prove their case.
