You are of course seeing light. Light is "Radiant energy", the parameters of which include: Infrared rays, Radio waves, Ultraviolet rays, X-rays, and the visible spectrum, which is the little bit that we see. This radiant energy comes from Atoms which have become "Excited". One way to excite atoms is to heat them, and they reach a higher energy level. They then drop back, and as they do, they release the energy as "Photons of light". The less heated, less energised atoms emit photons that are red in colour, and the more heated they become the colours change through the entire spectrum. White light is at the other end containing all colours. The different colours that you see in the fire, represent different heat levels in the flame, emitting different photons, that travel to your eyes, allowing you to see the fire.
