In the name of Chaos Undivided, we will slaughter the non-believers and offer their skulls for Khorne's throne, their pain to Slaanesh, their rotting corpses to Nurgle, and their souls to Tzeentch.
WORD BEARERS, ATTACK IN THE NAME OF LORGAR AND THE DARK GODS!

| Alex, the emperor class battleship is around 5km long. The Average imperial battleship is around 3km long. The Necron Battleship is 15km long. Craftworld Eldar live in Craftworlds. Not to mention the impenetrable ground forces by reaper standards. |

"is warhammer 40k good?"
As in capability and force in-universe? The Imperium, 40k's "good guys" as far as that exists, misplaces entire *planets* in their bureaucracy, and regards sacrificing millions of men to take a single city as a worthwhile sacrifice. There are very few universes that can take on 40k and win, and that's things like the Culture, the Xeelee, the Time Lords and the like.
As a universe? It's hilariously over-the-top.

40k is a tabletop game, and if you have the disposable income to spend on models, the time and patience to paint, and someone to play with, it's apparently pretty fun. I've been looking to get into it once I have the cash to spend, but that's an aside.
For video games, look into Dawn of War and its sequel DoW2, which are RTS games and fairly good games if you're into RTS. Also, Space Hulk Ascension and WH40k Armageddon, both turn-based strategy games, if pretty different from each other, and finally, WH40k Space Marine, a third-person shooter that's a bit reminiscent of Gears of War.

The core rules are in the Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook, and unit stats and the like are in the Faction Codexes.
Here's a summary: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/WH40k#The_tabletop
Also, do check out Forge World's models too.

I'm basically just thinking of collecting and making dioramas. Not exactly a lot of people to play with in rural Finland.

Eh, say what you want.
I find tabletop games fun.
Especially with friends, and being stupid with each other.
