Unless you mean,
1. colonize the habitable moons of a gas giant which are essentially rocky/icy planets.
2. use that as a foothold to harvest resources from the gas giant (large scale, unmanned) |

gas giants technically have a solid surface
there's a metallic core under all that gas
but then we have to deal with the gas
and the extreme gravity

the reason it's metallic is because of the immense pressure.
i can think of literally no good reason why you would want to colonize that when there's so many more easier spots to colonize in the vicinity of the gas giant |
