On weekends where there is less risk of the owners getting caught, you can generally see false places appearing on the Top Rated page. Empty baseplates with fake thumbnails on alternate accounts, such as example 1, teleport you to a place made by the scammers's main account, such as example 2. The method these places get the the front page is that the offender makes a lot of alternate accounts and either manually with other people or using bots, give thumbs up to the place as quickly as possible. The offender then repeats this a lot of times. Example 1: http://www.roblox.com/games/229324884/CARTRIDE-TO-ROBUX-JOIN-SG-FOR-VIP Example 2: http://www.roblox.com/games/194796403/SALE-FORTRESS-TYCOON-JOIN-SG-FOR-VIP
It is clearly visible that the places are illegitimate. However, that does not stop younger, more gullible users from being tricked and getting the fraud even more tickets. The offenders get a lot of tickets from it; both affecting TC rates badly by devaluing tickets and ROBLOX's profits if they use DevEx, the evidence for the scam not visible due to the alternate accounts deleted. Data storage and website performance is also affected badly due to sheer number of scam places and alternate accounts made at a similar period of time. The owner of example 1 in fact has 12 bot-created pages of places made in the last month. The scam places additionally ruin the quality of places and can drive out older users.
So, what could help reduce this abuse of the system? I will list a number of ways. Decide which ones you think work well and which ones will not.
#1. A minimum visit requirement for the Top Rated page One thing that can be seen is that a lot of these scam places tend to have a tiny number of place visits. A minimum of 500 place visits would make it harder for the scams to take place. That's generally the place visits even the most quality places get before reaching 100 thumbs up. Speaking of something similar...
#2. The number of place visits has to double or more the total likes on the place to appear on the Top Rated page One thing that can be seen is that these types of scam places have nearly the same number of likes as the number of place visits. A large number of users in regular places use ratings on every single place they play. I always see the place visit number of a legitimate place to be much higher than double the number of likes, as ¹ down below shows a ratio around 20:1. The best ratio I've ever seen was around 6:1
However, I'll choose the minimum ratio for this thread to be 2 place visits for each like to not get very lucky people away from there. It can be changed by ROBLOX if this gets added. This would make it very difficult for like bots to purely get a place to the page.
#3. A place has to exist for a minimum of 1 day (or a time period set by ROBLOX) to appear on the Top Rated page One thing that's common in these places is that they are made close to the time they are shown on the Top Rated page. You typically would neither have a place built in less than 1 days get a hundred thumbs up in less than or get 100 likes in 1 days. This measure has a greater effect on combating these types of games if...
#4. Moderators could still see these places on the page as if these restrictions were not in place, but the places will be distinguishable from those visible by users (probably by a certain border) One general trait of these places is that they are released at times when the moderators are less likely to be online. This is done to bypass moderation until a sufficient number of tickets are gained from the scam. This measure could make it easy for moderators to spot suspicious places before they are actually visible on the Top Rated page, getting rid of the problem before it starts. |

TL;DR version: Fake places which use like-bots are a problem. People often auto-teleport people to their main's place with these kinds of places, giving scammers a lot of tix and use up data. To get on the Top Rated page, places need to: 1. Have over 500 place visits 2. Have double as much or more place visits than likes 3. Be 1 day old or older Also, 4. These restrictions don't affect what moderators see, so they can hopefully spot suspicious places before they can profit the scammer. |

| Example 1 got CDed and ended up with over a thousand visits, but what strikes me is that the owning account is still continuing it after having dozens on places CDed. |
