Why do schools praise "Catcher in the Rye" as the holy grail of books? There's little to no depth and the whole book is just about a 16 year old kid who thinks he's older(and smarter) than he really is, and acts like a pretentious scumbag to everyone around him. On top of that, his The whole argument about rap vs. metal is dumb in itself. They are both acquired tastes that different people adapt to after listening to his dialogue is near impossible to follow, as he constantly repeats words like "phony" and "moron". On top of all of this, his attitude makes him sound as if he's the loneliest person in the world because nobody wants to talk to him, yet every time somebody tries to talk to him, he just pushes him away and acts miserable.
This book is utter garbage and is an insult to any book with an actual plot set into it. Oh yeah didn't I mention? This book describes itself as a 'novel' despite it's plotless content. The author supposedly took 10 years writing this book and it makes me wonder, how the hell do you invest so much time, only to produce this pile of garbage?
About 3 times into the book, it sounds as if the plot is going to go somewhere, then it just goes a complete other direction. Did Salinger just say "to hell with it" after the tenth year? Who knows.
/end rant: The Catcher in the Rye is a pile of garbage, read the Great Gatsby instead. |

it's relatable maybe if you are an angsty kid who wears all black and complains about how his parents don't understand him because they listen to death metal or whatever |

Lies.
The great gatsby is my favorite book i've read so far and I think it's just merely due to how much content Fitzgerald delivers in it and how much can be analyzed on each page. If someone told me Fitzgerald took 10 years to write Gatsby, I would believe that. 10 years for catcher in the rye? Very very lazy |

yeah this book is terrible. They need to remove it from American Literature, no idea why it's still here. Maybe to give goth kids an ego boost? I don't know.... |

Why do people continue to post on this thread? There's little to no merit in the claims made in the original post, and the author is just a 16 year old kid who thinks he's older and smarter than he really is. The whole argument about the protagonist repeating words like "phony" and "moron" is dumb in and of itself. On top of all that, OP's attitude makes him sound like he didn't even attempt to write a cohesive argument.
This thread is utter garbage and is an insult to anyone who appreciates all kinds of literature whether they enjoyed reading it or not. OP supposedly took ten minutes writing this post and it makes me wonder, how the hell do you invest so much time and manage to write such a malformed opinion?
About three times in the thread, the OP starts a new paragraph. Why didn't he just stop while he was ahead? Who knows.
/end rant: At least OP likes The Great Gatsby. |
