Required reading for anyone above farmer.

BATTLE, REST, DEFENSE.

BATTLE: Anyone caught saying ''lol'', ''gg', etc. And making faces. While fighting and representing us? They don't get servant. They go straight to Exile. You may Yell, intimidate, and Hail the Gods you wish while fighting. You MUST respect your Warband leader. Anything even close to disrespect is a gateway to the path of a Servant.

REST: Same rules as battle, but you may speak freely. Just don't get immature, it'd be a shame to hold so many servants.

DEFENSE: During the defense of our Island or village, when not raiding the enemy land, don't make it boring for yourself. Duel, fight, drink, eat, sing. Continuous patrols around the island border are mandatory. At least two Norsemen at a time act as sentries.

LAND TACTICS: When on Land, you report to your nearest Warband leader. Warband leaders are Elders and above. If there are no Elders or above, report to the nearest Warrior. If he dies, you fight to the death, and rejoin him. Do not run away from your Warband party. If you rush away, go off to fight alone, you are considered less than valuable to the Norsemen and demoted to something suitable for useless men. Servants.

SEA TACTICS: Warriors and above can spawn Longships. Report to the nearest Sea Raiding party, Warrior and above, and join their ship. You may NOT make a Longship of your own and sail off. It's considered deserting and will be treated as a Servant, and demoted to such. You can carry the gear! When you land from your Longship, you go on land and WAIT FOR YOUR WARBAND LEADER. Do not run off! Should he die and you are alone with your men, you wait at shore for him. After exactly 3 minutes he does not show up, you report to the nearest Warrior and above.

PUNISHMENTS:

SERVANT: Servants are men who have disappointed their leaders greatly, but exile is too great a punishment. These men spend time as a servant for a short-long while, depending on the nature of the crime, and then are returned to their rank, or freeman, once more depending on the severity of the crime.

EXILE/SACRIFICE: You've committed the most heinous crimes possible. You've been exiled to starve in far off lands. Crimes like these are treason, betrayal, breaking the chain of command, going against the Norse Gods, and challenging the values of Ragnar Lothbrok and his Warband. If you should be chosen to be sacrificed, you will be killed by a new Warrior. As you are being killed, you have a chance to beg forgiveness from whomever you have offended to become their personal servant for a single week. If they accept this compromise, Ragnar or the Earl will decide if he will still be killed for the Gods or Exiled, or if he can regain his honor as a Servant.

BLOOD EAGLE: The very worst scum and criminals, Oathbreakers and Cowards, are sentenced to the Blood Eagle. Ragnar or the Earl Chop away at the Spine of the offender, and his ribcage opens. His lungs are placed on his shoulders until he dies of suffocation or blood loss. If the offender takes this punishment silently, without begging or screaming in pain, he will be able to Go to Valhalla instead of Hel, to justify his crimes to the Gods.

HONORS:

WARRIORHOOD: You've been given the Honor of being a Warrior! You know your culture, traditions, and Gods. You've proven yourself to be extremely capable. Look at ''Sacrifice'' for more details.

SACRIFICE: You've just been inducted as a Warrior. Before you can truly become a full Viking, you must give your first sacrifice to the Gods. Capture an enemy or traitor and sacrifice them to the Gods. After this sacrifice, you are marked with the victims blood, and given the honor of joining the King's Shield-wall.

Required reading for anyone wanting to eventually become a Warrior.

GODS:

We have 10 main gods you need to knows by heart.

ODIN: All-father of the Gods. His weapon of choice is the Spear, and he is the creator and ruler of all the gods. He created Valhalla for all warriors to rejoice in. His name is screamed in battle. He is a God of magick, wisdom, wit, and learning. It is he who sacrifices an eye at the well of Mimir to gain inner wisdom, and later hangs himself upon the World Tree Yggdrasil to gain the knowledge and power of the Runes. It is because of this he wear his eyepatch.

THOR: Thor, or Donnar, also known as the Thunderer, was considered to be a son of Odin by some, but among many tribes Thor actually supplanted Odin as the favorite god. He is considered to be the protector of all Midgard, and he wields the mighty hammer Mjollnir. Thor is strength personified. His battle chariot is drawn by two goats, and his hammer Mjollnir causes the lightning that flashes across the sky. Of all the deities, Thor is the most "barbarian" of the lot; rugged, powerful, and lives by his own rules, although he is faithful to the rest of the Aesir.

FREYA: Freya is considered to be the goddess of Love and Beauty, but is also a warrior goddess and one of great wisdom and magick. She and her twin brother Freyr are of a different "race" of gods known as the Vanir. Many of the tribes venerated her higher than the Aesir, calling her "the Frowe" or "The Lady." She is known as Queen of the Valkyries, choosers of those slain in battle to bear them to Valhalla (the Norse heaven). She, therefore, is a psychopomp like Odhinn and it is said that she gets the "first pick" of the battle slain. She wears the sacred necklace Brisingamen, which she paid for by spending the night with the dwarves who wrought it from the bowels of the earth.

FREYR: Freyr (Fro Ingwe) is Freya's twin brother. He is the horned God of fertility, and has some similarities to the Celtic Cernunnos or Herne, although he is NOT the same being. He is known as King of the Alfs (elves). Both the Swedish and the English are said to be descendents of his. The Boar is his sacred symbol, which is both associated with war and with fertility. His golden boar, "Gullenbursti", is supposed to represent the daybreak. He is also considered to be the God of Success, and is wedded to Gerda, the Jotun, for whom he had to yield up his mighty sword.

TYR: Tyr (or Tiw, Ziw) is the ancient god of War and the Lawgiver of the gods. He sacrifices his hand so that the evil Fenris wolf may be bound. At one time he was the leader of the Norse Pantheon, but was supplanted by Odin much later. There is nothing to indicate how this occurred; one assumes that he simply "stepped back" and let Odin assume the position of leadership. Tyr is excellent in all manners of Justice, fair play, and Right Action.

LOKI: Loki, the Trickster, challenges the structure and order of the Gods, but is necessary in bringing about needed change. He is also known as the god of Fire. Neither an Aesir or a Vanir, he is of the race of Ettins (Elementals) and thus possesses some daemonic qualities. He is both a helper and a foe of the Aesir; he gets them out of predicaments, but spawns the worst monsters ever seen on the face of the Earth: the Fenris Wolf and Jormurgandr, the Midgard Wyrm. His other children include the goddess Hel (Hella, Holle), and Sleipnir, Odin's 8-legged horse; these beings are at least benign, if not somewhat terrifying to behold.

HEIMDALL: Heimdall is the handsome gold-toothed guardian of Bifrost, the rainbow bridge leading to Asgard, the home of the Gods. The rainbow bridge seems to be a common symbol in many religious traditions other than Norse Heathenism. In the Vedic tradition, it represents the Antakaranha of humanity (connection between the body and the soul). Other traditions see it as a message from the Gods, or a Bridge between the Gods and Mankind. This would tend to indicate that the Norse/Germanic people were aware of the presence of an overshadowing Soul for each individual, as well as a group or tribal intelligence. It is Heimdall who is to sound the signal horn to the Aesir that Ragnarok, the great destruction (or transformation?) is beginning.

SKADI: She is married to Njord, the gloomy Sea God, noted for his beautiful bare feet (which is how Skadi came to choose him for her mate.) Supposedly the bare foot is an ancient Norse symbol of fertility. The marriage wasn't too happy, though, because she really wanted Baldur for her husband. She is the goddess of Justice, Vengeance, and Righteous Anger, and is the deity who delivers the sentence upon Loki to be bound underground with a serpent dripping poison upon his face in payment for his crimes.

HEL: In Norse mythology, Hel is a being who presides over a realm of the same name, where she receives a portion of the dead. She punishes cowards and oathbreakers by eating them, and feeding them to her pet monsters.

AEGIR: Ægir is a sea giant, god of the ocean and king of the sea creatures in Norse mythology. He is also known for hosting elaborate parties for the gods. He has his own afterlife for Drowned warriors.

AFTERLIFES:

VALHALLA: Considered by the Vikings and Norsemen to be the best afterlife, Valhalla is where men who die with a sword in their hands are sent. After their last battle on Midgard (Earth), they are sent to Valhalla. Every day they feast on the finest foods, lay with the most beautiful of Valkyries (Female Vikings), and Battle to the death. Then they are resurrected, and repeat the process forever.

AEGIRS HALL: Many fine Vikings, Norsemen, and Sailors die in battles at sea, or battles with the sea. They are sent to Aegirs hall. Aegir demands a single gold coin for entrance into his hall. Therefore, all Norsemen and Vikings are given a single gold coin before they board their longship. If they drown, or die in battle at sea, they are sent down to Aegirs hall. They present him the gold coin, and enter the hall. He has the best parties, the finest seafood, and you can battle with his many sea-creatures.

FREYA'S DOMAIN: As per an agreement with Odin, Freya gets first pick of battle slain warriors. Warriors chosen by freya live a peaceful life in her endless fields. Their families await them, and they never suffer. No sickness, no old age. They eat better, the crops are always successful. Many women who do not die as a Valkyrie choose to go to Freya's domain.

HEL: No, not mispelled. Hel is a creature and her Domain. Men who have broken their oaths and not made amends, cowards, and foreign invaders with no honor, are all sent to Hel. They are eaten alive by her and her monster pets, then resurrected. One may only exit hel if he is willing to seek justice for his crimes by avenging whatever he has done. Should he fail this avengement, he is sent to Loki's realm, to be twisted into a monster.

LOKI'S REALM: The many cowards, oathbreakers and criminals who have tried to avenge their crimes and failed, are sent to Loki's realm. He twists their bodies into horrible creatures in constant agony, and they serve their twisted master.

If anyone does not know why they called the punishment 'Blood Eagle', it is because when the punishment is finished it is said to look like a red eagle spreading out its wings.
