i honestly didn't even know if this was relevant on RT rn but i'm just sharing this so people shutup about it because it's truly not that big of a deal.
basically it changes depending on your eyesight and the way your retinas function.
if you see blue and black, your retina cones are more high functioning, which results in your eyes doing subtractive mixing which forms the black and blue.
if you see gold and white (which i do), your eyes don't work well in dim lighted areas. so your retina rods see white, which also makes them less light sensitive, causing additive mixing (of green and red) to make gold.
i did a similar experiment two years ago, it's just the mixture of the colors. the dress is irrelevant. |

The dress is blue and black for a simple reason.
It's a picture of a dominantly seemingly white object, which comes up just fine on the camera, now the background of the image is also white. This wouldn't be a problem, except if the white balance was off.
In the picture, the background white balance is currently set as if the dress was dark, and if it was truly bright, then the background wouldn't be so offbalance

I've also done this experiment before as well, I knew exactly what was going on when I first set eyes on the dress. I tested it on my entire family and multiple friends five years ago.
