I damn dare. I'd rather have 200,000 civilians die, than two million soldiers.

are you american drones aware that the soviets were steaming through manchuria set for japan?
do you know what soviets like to do with emperors? do you know what japan likes to do with emperors?
japan wanted peace early 1945 because they knew they were screwed, they wanted peace with the AMERICANS so that the soviets dont roll them over
the "they wouldve fought to the death" argument is a complete utter misconception with no root in reality, the usa would never require to invade japan for a japenese capitulation |

gentaurg, you are wrong.
the japanese people did want peace, but the military command of japan did not want to surrender.
after the first atomic bomb drop, japan did not surrender, after the second atomic drop, then they did.
the US asked japan several times to surrender during and after the atomic bombs, they didnt answer til the second. |

its justified.
if the bombs weren't dropped then the US would have to invade japan, that would cost millions of both japanese and american lives. |

how is there "no root" lmao
it literally COMES from japan's samurai roots where it's either fight to the death, or dishonor.
it's already been calculated that civilian deaths, and military deaths would've been far greater if the US invaded |

I was taught that an offer of surrender was given to Japan by America, and they said no.

"but commenting on mag's post, soldiers sign up knowing that there's a risk of death, civilians don't"
nearly all the soldiers on all sides during WW2 were drafted conscripts.
they didn't have a choice.
a soldier is just a like a civilian, both human beings, just one is holding a gun.

soldiers enlist.. knowing of the chance of dying. soldiers are meant to die.
civilians are civilians, they're not apart of a regime nor an evil force, or whatever you want to call it, lol. |

august 6: hiroshima bomb
MORNING of august 9: japanese council meets to discuss unconditional surrender - this had never happened before
later that day: nagasaki nuke
did the hiroshima bombing motivate this meeting? 3 days to respond to a crisis that can determine the fate of your country? not likely nagasaki bombing? no, that happened later that day
also, remember: japan was being blown to tiny little pieces by american bombers already, 100s of thousands were being killed by bombing raids - why distinguish between two, comparatively insignificant attacks?
also: the destruction in hiroshima was not the most the americans did in any japanese city. once again, why would you distinguish here? its illogical
the leaders of japan knew very well they were losing, they knew the war wouldnt go on - and you seem to think theyre dumb enough to "fight to the death bushido samurai wooo!" but thats not true at all
now lets enter the territory that american drones dont know of within 3 months of the german defeat (this was agreed on beforehand by the allies), the soviets would declare war on japan - they did this on AUGUST 9
put 2 and 2 togehter |
