The USMC Guide

Hello, Marine. First, some very basic info. I am your Commandant, SnowMiserable. Also, keep in mind that we are not friends. It's not that I don't like you, it's just that I cannot develop personal relationships with the men. It makes it hard to punish you when you break the rules. Simple, right?

If you are reading this guide, it is because you have decided to become a loyal and formidable Marine in The United States Marine Corps. By reading this guide, you will be ensuring future promotions for yourself.

This guide aims to inform Marines of what is required of them within the group, as well as to impart upon them important group information.

PART I - The United States Marine Corps and You!

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

This part of the guide is to tell you the expected behavior within the group, as well as to tell you some easy tricks and tips on how to get promoted after finishing the academy!

A good Marine MUST do the following 10 things!

1. Follow ALL orders from soldiers of officer rank or anybody that is higher rank than you are (HR+) WITHOUT QUESTION. This means that when an officer gives you an order, you say "Yes Sir", or "Yes Ma'am!" AND NOTHING ELSE. If there's anything that's sure to make an officer angry, it's seeing a soldier say "..." after they're given an order. Do not be passive aggressive. Just follow orders without question. Following orders is a SURE way to get you promoted.

2. Be in UNIFORM! When at USMC maps, you are ALWAYS considered on duty. There is no grey area. Either get in uniform from the morph or leave. Failure to comply will result in demotion. Being in uniform at all times, even when not at USMC maps, is a sure way to impress me and your officers.

3. PATROL! Showing up to patrol the Marine is ALWAYS a good thing. Trust me, I am CONSTANTLY checking our servers, even on my iPhone when I'm not at home, to see who is active. It may be boring if you're alone, but believe me, stick with it. The more people that come to patrol, the more fun it will be. Having people patrol our maps shows that we are an active group and brings in visitors to join us. PATROLLING IS THE SINGLE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR OUR GROUP. Plus, any HR+ can hold official trainings to get you promoted! It's MUCH easier to host a training when the men are already there patrolling. You wouldn't want to miss out on a promotion, would you? Good! Then patrol!

4. Be kind and courteous to visitors, allies, AND enemies. Why be kind to enemies, you ask? It shows that we are a mature group that handles war and other such engagements like GENTLEMEN. Being a gentleman is just about the most important thing you could do. Showing that we are mature will cause people to leave their groups and join us, because they know that we're a more professional group. Additionally, if you REALLY want to make an enemy angry, you will act intelligently and reserved. There's nothing an idiot/troll hates more than someone who won't give them a good reaction. Remember that when dealing with visitors, allies, and enemies, you are representing OUR group. If you can't do that in a mature way like I described above, then keep quiet. There's nothing a HR hates more than having their negotiations sabotaged by a pissed off soldier.

5. RESPECT your fellow Marines! They, just like you, joined this group to be part of a powerful group of people all dedicated to the same cause. By causing arguments or insulting other members, you are tearing apart the very fabric of this group. Insulting group-mates (or visitors, allies, or enemies for that matter) can easily result in demotion or banishment. It's not hard. Remember the golden rule: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

6. Use official terms! Although remembering all these terms/words is not necessary, it's a VERY easy way to prove that you read this guide and that you wish to immerse yourself in the culture of the group (In other words, using these phrases will help you get promoted).

7. Be aware that you are ALWAYS being watched by people of higher ranks when you are at our forts. Do not try to break rules or protocol. You will not get away with it. If YOU witness somebody breaking rules, report it to me IMMEDIATELY! But do not say something like "Builderman was AAing". I need CONTEXT. All reports should have a FULL story of what happened.

8. DO NOT ASK FOR PROMOTIONS. This can NOT be stressed enough! Why is this a rule? Because asking for a promotion proves that all you're interested in is promotions. If all you want is promotions, walk away and join another group RIGHT NOW. In The Marines, we expect our recruits to have a real desire to better us and become the best USMC group on Roblox. This does not include you becoming second in command. That isn't to say that you CAN'T become second in command, because you definitely can. Just follow the protocol for promotions and you're sure to reach one of the highest ranks in this group!

9. USE GRAMMAR, SPELLING, AND PUNCTUATION. Again, very important. This shows that our members are not only skilled; they are INTELLIGENT. This also means that you should refrain from using internet slang such as lol/lel, omg, nu, etc. Also, refrain from using faces! This is one of those rules that isn't ALWAYS applied, but it definitely makes getting promotions easier! Use words to articulate your emotions. Not faces.

10. Become a real part of the group! Converse with people about the group on the group walls, show up to group places very often, and even do some tidbits of research on the Marine Corps! It never hurts to learn more about the role you are playing in-game. Also, feel free to join one of the 4 Marine divisions in this group. Speak to its's commander for more info.

PART II - Promotions and How to Attain Them

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

So, you want a promotion? Please, just spam my inbox with requests. Oh wait, DON'T.

Remember, you don't "deserve" a promotion. You are not "owed" a promotion. Your officers will give them out as they see fit. If you have a problem with the way the officers promote, take it up with me, not them.

Asking for promotions is STRICTLY forbidden! It will even result in demotion. So, play it safe, and DON'T ASK. But if you want a promotion, this is how to earn them:

E1-E2: BMT, and basic understanding of Handbook Basics.TAKE ASVAB.
E2 to E3: pre-promotion requirements: BCT, Understanding of Basics and On-Duty Tasks. SERVE TWO WEEKS
E2-E3: 10 Question quiz on Marine Information/History given during BMT.
E3-E4: understand promotional procedures up to E4. Verbal 15 question quiz on what being a Marine means to you.
E4 to E5: pre-promotion requirements:1 month service, Memorization of Handbook(Past Promotional Procedure). And 2 hours of patrolling at Leatherneck, etc.
E4-E5: 30 question quiz of basic math and reading based questions (basic ASVAB
style quiz). How the Marine Corps has thought you respect and discipline amongst peers.
E5-E6: pre-promotion requirements: 2 month service. 4 hours combat patrol time. And half and hour peer assistance. Fundamentals of Combat (from BCT), and advanced knowledge of the Marine Corps.
E6-E7: pre-pro. requirements: 4 month service, Knowledge of advanced Marine Procedures( will be taught during pre requirement classes). Ability to teach Combat Training.
E6-E7: 55 question quiz on the History of Marines in Combat(made by TECOM), teamwork skills shown by 4 hours of combat patrol( see E5-E6 ). Show change in attitude from your humble start as a E1.
E7-E9b: 400 word essay on the Leaders of the Marine Corps, History summarized, and clear traits of commanding skills, and maturity amongst peers of lower pay grade.
(E7-E9b is the same due to the similar rolls each rank plays in the Corps.) [NOTE: E9C is a special enlisted position (SEA) given by the Commandant, there is only one SMMC at a time.]

~{TO BECOME AN OFFICER, YOU MUST BE AT LEAST E9B AND PASS OCS!]~

(O1/O2-O5/O6): for officers to be promoted, they will have to be recommended by a Brigadier General or higher and pass an approval test that is signed by me and my Assistant Commandant. They must then pass a 30 question test.
(O7/O8-O10): for Generals to be promoted, they must demonstrate an example of extreme and courageous leadership and be voted by me and the ACMC. The Sergeant Major of the marine Corps will also have a say in this promotion part. They will also be required to write a 600 word essay on how they can improve if they were promoted. Then take a 50 question test and MUST pass with a 100%.

PART III - I'm An Officer Now. Just What The Heck Does That Mean?

☪--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

An officer is anyone who is a Second Lieutenant+. This is a short list of requirements for USMC officers. Your responsibilities, of course, go far beyond these. These, however, are the basic necessities.

1. Obey orders. Just because you're an officer doesn't mean you're above orders. Anyone higher rank than you is your superior and must be treated as such.

2. Respect the men. Do not be a tyrant. Just because you're an officer, that doesn't mean you're better than the men. Remember, you were once one of them! If a soldier messes up an order, do not berate and humiliate them. Be stern, but not aggressive. Ask them whether they know the order, and if not, teach them. NEVER USE ADMIN COMMANDS TO PUNISH RECRUITS WHO MAKE MISTAKES. The only exception is :fling. This is a nonlethal and nonrestrictive way to get them out of line and to embarrass them just enough to try harder next time. Only use this command if absolutely necessary.

3. Do not hand out demotions and exiles left and right! It's hard enough to get promoted. Don't cause Marines to desert by demoting them every time they make a comment, break a rule, or screw up miserably. Simply tell them that they're receiving a warning and if the behavior continues, it is punishable by demotion or exile. Simple as that.

4. Lead by example! Officers are expected to be FAR more mature than regular members. If you're not behaving maturely, you will be demoted without hesitation. Immature behavior includes, but is not limited to: spam, internet slang, AA, arguing, excessive use of force, insulting people, and other general tom foolery. If you're not sure whether it's mature or not, simply don't do it. It's probably not. Also, DO NOT USE ADMIN COMMANDS UNLESS NECESSARY. Silly commands like :loopfling and :cape are very immature and will result in demotion. Also, :gear is the MOST forbidden command in this group. Giving yourself gear that is not already in the starterpack will DEFINITELY result in demotion. Don't be stupid. Just don't do it.

5. Patrol and host trainings! This is your NUMBER ONE responsibility! I cannot host 50 trainings every week. I just don't have the time. It is the job of my officers to know the commands and host SEVERAL trainings every week. If you do NOT know the commands, watch a training and take notes. Do NOT train the men if you are not 100% sure that you know every single command PERFECTLY (that includes wording). Remember, being active at the fort, and more importantly, hosting trainings, is the ONLY way to keep getting promoted as an officer and possibly get a recommendation for a promotion! Hosting trainings as an officer is equivalent to attending them as a soldier. Just do it!

Part IV: Training!

☪------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

The following is a list of orders and protocol that should be covered in every training. Learn them, live them, breathe them.

☪------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

First, some basic terminology:

☪------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------☪

1. The command: "Fall In!" means Shoulder To Shoulder. This is essentially a firing line or to start of a training. So, when your commanding officer says "Fall In", form a shoulder to shoulder line facing him.

2. Ranks. During a training, you may here the word ranks. This is not ranks in the sense of group positions. Ranks are rows of men in firing lines. So, if your officer says TWO RANKS, STS, he wants there to be two STS lines of men, one behind the other.

3. PTS means Permission To Speak. Always ask this before blurting something out in line. Speaking in line is forbidden! Also, if it's not important to this specific training, simply don't say it at all. You're wasting everyone else's time.

4. Single file. This does NOT mean STS line. This means get in a single file line, one behind the other, like you're lining up for a meal. If possible, organise by rank. Higher ranks in the front, lower ranks in the back.

[SIMPLE USMC BASICS]

Addressing ranking Officer as Sir or Ma'am, and higher ranking Enlisted by there rank.

Show respect at all times of on duty service. Show an example!

[CREED OF THE CORPS RIFLEMAN]

"This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than the enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. My rifle and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, or the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit.

My rifle is human, even as I am human, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other.

Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.

"So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy,
the few, the proud, the Marines."

~Commandant of the Marine Corps, USMC
