I hear it's sort of watered down compared to Victoria 2 in terms of diplomacy and politics.

I honestly like it better than Victoria 2, the diplomacy and politics obviously aren't the best aspects of the game. Each update makes the game more realistic, UI isn't that great though. That text size :/

I'm having a blast with Victoria 2. Playing as Japan at the moment. Typical Asia strategy. Keep west from expanding and get a foothold in key-areas before them. Took over Hawaii, Korea, and parts of the Arabian peninsula.
Is it more conquest oriented?

The game is also still receiving new DLC and updates. It's still a bit pricey because of all the DLC.

Europa Universalis 4 has a way larger scale combat that is more advanced. I think that the diplomacy is better than Victoria 2's, however it has it's faults. Europa Universalis 4 is more of a nation building game. There's also a lot of mods for EU 4 if you get bored of the base game.

The only way to actually experience and see how the game works is to obviously buy the game. Explain features that is has that Victoria 2 doesn't have.

It's two different sides to the same sub-genre. You can't really compare the game on what features it has or doesn't have. The combat system is on a way larger scale than Victoria 2, you actually have to pay attention to number, terrain, and etc. In EU 4, all the nations matter. Where as in Victoria 2 it's harder to start off a small nation and expand. EU also takes place in a different time period, technology matters way more than in Vicky 2, EU 4 has idea groups where you basically specialize your nation in different categories. In EU 4, it's way more of an alternate history nation builder. Usually, in EU 4 you celebrate how your nation is at the end of your play through, where as Victoria 2 you celebrate "funny" achievements, aka Communist USA.
Probably should just watch people play the game though, it'll be way more into depth than me. |

Ya I'd buy it, have over 400+ hours on it and if you can commit the time it's worth it. Huge learning curve.
