I know its too late to abandon ship now, but it does need to be said that most of Americas crime problem comes directly from the fact that they gave people guns so freely. It's crime rate is one of the highest out of all the developed countries.

>Are you serious OP? Criminals buy weapons illegally anyways, making guns illegal won't change anything other then that people now can't buy weapons legally.
If you read what I literally said, the first thing I said was "I know its too late to abandon ship now". They cannot ban guns now, obviously. They made their choice and now they are pretty much stuck with it indefinitely. HOWEVER, if initially, America DIDN'T choose to give its citizens guns, there is no doubt it wouldn't be having the problems it currently has. Trigger happy cops scared of their own shadow, high homicide rate, its awful.

>The people who use guns for crime do so by buying it off a black market and or via other illegal methods, it doesn't matter to them if its legal or not.
I hear this argument all the time, and if it were really true, then we should be seeing gun crime all over the place. But no, the UK? Very little gun crime. Most of europe? Same. Why? Because they didn't choose to give citizens guns INITIALLY. I don't know what mastermind you think most of the criminals in the US are, but you are seriously giving them too much credit. If in the US constitution, they DIDN'T allow guns, there would be very little crime. VERY few people will actually have the means to get guns, and lets be honest here, most people commit crimes on a whim. And if they are planned, the criminals usually don't have the connections or knowledge to get firearms.
I do again want to reiterate that what I am saying is purely what would have happened if the US CHOSE AGAINST giving citizens guns when it was first founded. Not what will happen if we ban guns now.

>Yeah, except you need a license in order to be capable of buying a gun
Uh,no. You do not need a license to buy or own a gun, in most states anyway. Taken from a website:
"Federal law does not require any sort of licensing to own a gun. In most states and municipalities, a license is not required to own a gun but is required to carry a gun on your person."
You only need a license to carry it around. Not to own. Hell, you surprisingly don't need ANYTHING to get a gun from a private seller. No ID, no background check, nothing. It is easier to buy a gun than it is to get drinks according to sources.
>guns aren't all over the place because most people don't want to do something illegal
It is estimated that there are 270 million guns in civilian hands in the US. Thats 89 for every 100 residents own a firearm.
> illegal methods are illegal for a reason Yes
>caught and jailed for attempting Yes
Honestly, I didn't even know it was THAT easy to get guns until I researched it. Damn.

the second amendment's purpose was for protection and resistance against hostile invaders,
the problem is not the gun but the person.
if we were to have a thorough investigation of people before they receive a firearms license, firearm-related crime rates would be much lower |

"But no, the UK? Very little gun crime." But also one of the highest crime rates of all the countries of the world, about 2-2.5x that of the USA. |

"For buying a gun, there are two legal options. Option one is to buy a gun from a dealer. In that case the buyer must pass a background check to ensure that they aren’t a prohibited purchaser. However in most states, there is a perfectly legal second option: Buying a gun from a private seller. In this scenario the background check isn’t required, and data shows that this is the “loophole” by which the majority of criminals get their guns. So while you need things like an ID and a license to buy a car, but, incredibly, nothing is needed to legally buy a gun from a private seller."

It probably isn't going to get much worse than it currently is to be honest.

"It says there that the US is almost double the UK's crime rate." Click on per capita, you're looking at the total crime committed (and of course USA's is higher because of the bigger population) |
