In order to ensure that someone who has already met qualifications to hold office and succeeded in being elected to that office no longer needlessly go through the qualification process again, this bill seeks to slightly alter the current electoral system.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. TITLE.
1: This Act may be cited as the "Incumbent Legitimacy Act"
SEC. 2. SIGNATURE & TEMPLATE
1: Individuals who already hold the office which they are running for do not have to get a signature forum
2: Individuals who are running for re elections do have to submit the template as usual, however the signature forum is not required.
SEC. 3. FORMER OFFICIALS
1: This only applies to people currently holding the office which they are running for, individuals running for another office which they do not hold, or individuals having left office since their last term served, still have to acquire the signatures as required by law.

This seems like a way to give advantage to people in office.
That's not entirely bad, but then again...
Signatures are helpful to understand if that certain member is still trusted and like by the citizens. Yes, elections might be helpful with that too, but signatures are also good to show if the person really wants to put the time and the effort to make a speech about their future plans and motivational talk. It shows in whether they still want to put the time and effort into getting back into congress.
It almost seems like this would allow most, if not all of the current congress members to be re-elected, whereas very few people running for the first time would have little to no chance of ever getting in, as it would be the same congress members over and over again.
In a TL;DR: I could use some reasons on why this should even be passed? Other than making the current congress members have to do less work. |
