im taking a computer technology course (mostly hands on, but we have a unit on java//html) and i just did it with my friends
i wanted to change it to art but i knew tech could have some advantages
if i continue to take scripting, what job opportunities will i get? just curious!!!

| Take a look around, most things in this age are dependent on programmers. |

Although lua might be easy to learn and implant it is a high language and isnt used everywhere. |

Step out of the way, I am Keith.
First of all you're not taking "scripting".
And I am nearly sure you have a unit on JavaScript WHICH IS NOT Java.
It seems pretty garbage, I'm going to assume you're 6th-9th grade.
"assembly is more OS and deap down"
If you aren't doing reverse engineering I don't see much of a point to learning it.
"PHP, javascript, and HTML are mostly web dev,"
..mostly?
"C ++ is game based"
Yeah I've never seen it used for software development or OS coding.

"can lua be applied in the REAL world"
It's less practical than something like Python, but dare I say more practical than Ruby.
It's very very easy so that's a bonus, could do well as a starter language as a step towards learning Python I suppose. |

| It all really depends on the branch of programming that you'd like to go into. There's software development, OS development, game development, web-design, computer system technologists are more hands-on, and deal with both physical and virtual aspects of computers, so there's always that. |

C++ is used in banks... Banks don't make games I'm pretty sure. |

'If you aren't doing reverse engineering I don't see much of a point to learning it.' It'll help you understand what is actually happening, it should be something you want to learn to understand a computer in general.
'Yeah I've never seen it used for software development or OS coding.' Are you okay?
And java is just ehh IMO |

@cntkillme you need to learn this great new scripting language called sarcasm
"It'll help you understand what is actually happening, it should be something you want to learn to understand a computer in general."
if you're going to make your career C or C++ based I could see it being useful to understand assembly
however I don't know of specific cases when you would actually need to know it to debug a problem, but hey I'm not a C expert |

"can lua be applied in the REAL world" Depends on what you mean by "REAL world". Most likely not, depending on what it is you're asking.
"like making websites/transportation/robotic engineering" "websites" - well for markup there are many. For functionality you'd probably want to learn JavaScript "transportation" - depends on what you mean "Robotic engineering" - there are those who are fond of using Java for robotics, but there is really no reason at all to do so. Long story short, Java is really slow as a result of being able to run cross-platform. With robotics you should only have to deal with one kind of mirco processor. C++ on the other hand, is compiled ahead of time, rather than on the spot, so it's a lot quicker. Sometimes people use C or a C subset like Arduino though, which is also fine.
The software developers are the ones who get the big bucks usually, for that you'd probably want to know Java, although C++ would be useful, just substantially less.
On a side note, I heard banks did it all with COBOL since that's been around for ages. |
