The internet was made to break boundaries, not create them.

It very well can, will, and is happening.
It's just that it bends with the whim of commercial gods..
So really it's entirely worthless.

They should've taken a hint from SOPA of just how many people genuinely valued their privacy and freedom on the internet. This is pretty much just a re-run of that episode, and they should be expecting the same results. They might as well quit while they're ahead.

you are forgetting the ISPs have power over your internet let's say you are a huge supporter and one of the main leaders of the net neutrality movement? you could get a letter from verizon, your ISP, saying "oops, there was an issue in the servers and your internet was shut down. we aint fixing it cause you are trying to steal our money, have fun" they're selling you internet, they can do what they want w/ it

@0ne SOPA did teach everyone lessons. I would rather have privacy over security any day. but SOPA is a government bill this is just private companies being jackasses

@plane access to food is also a basic human right according to the U.N, but the super markets aren't giving out their food for free and they can sure as hell kick anyone out that is making a ruckus inside to turn the super market into a soup kitchen

if the masses care about net neutrality then it will become an eventuality instead of a possibility

@plane if the government makes net neutrality a thing, the ISPs are going to stop selling internet, it's that simple. they lost control over their product, whats the point in selling it? then no one has internet everyone loses

"then what are they gonna do? start their own ISP?" i guess. someone with enough money to lay the lines or acquire the preexisting lines
this is assuming that ALL ISPs stop providing internet, which is unlikely sure, the US is practically a TWC/comcast monopoly, but in areas where there are more providers, the business will flourish, because that's their only option and then those ISPs grow. |

@planes you don't realize how costly that is, right? even bill gates can't start a free ISP and keep it running HIMSELF without needing employees eventually to pay, and then eventually put a price and thus the cycle continues

"you don't realize how costly that is, right? even bill gates can't start a free ISP and keep it running HIMSELF without needing employees eventually to pay, and then eventually put a price and thus the cycle continues" bill gates is not as wealthy as he used to be i am not saying that internet will be provided for free i am saying that if the nation wants internet, someone will jump at the opportunity smaller ISPs will eventually gain traction and expand and why would comcast/twc just suddenly stop providing an internet service? isn't less money better than no money at all? |

@plan even so, if they don't offer much for the internet, at that rate, they'd probably be losing money

| ok... imagine paying for internet.... imagine poor people...... ok now imagine how much knowledge is on the internet.... now imagine poor people not having access to that all because of a company that's already wealthy enough wanting more money |

@look these companies pay for their servers, they pay employees, they have literally NO reason to give out the internet, THEIR internet for free. that's like protesting that apple should give out it's computers for free because it can connect to the internet
i support NN, but i also support realism. and those two aint complying
