the republic and empire are essentially the same thing and are only named such because rome is the capital
they aren't alternate meanings to the word rome |

"the republic and empire are essentially the same thing and are only named such because rome is the capital

one refers to a very specific geographical location -- a city which exists in modern-day Italy and which existed in the Roman Republic and Empire
another refers to a geographical location covering southern coastal europe, northern coastal africa and the near east
how are they not distinct terms |

rome is a city
the roman republic/empire refers to the territories controlled by the city during their reigns
they are literally the same thing but one's an empire and one's a republic |

"they are literally the same thing but one's an empire and one's a republic"
so what you're saying is
they're literally the same thing but they're different
Honestly, that's all that needs to be said, but allow me to provide an example.
New York.
New York refers to a city and a state.
Same thing we're talking about here.
New York refers to two different things, much like Rome. |

as long as we're talking about city/empire,
the roman empire was huge, it was everything from the city of rome to italy to a LOT of places in europe and asia, including "asia" the country, and brittain, and ireland, and france and portugal and spain and africa, including "africa" the country which carthage was a part of but didnt like rome as well as egypt and then greece was part of the empire too and the city of troy in the country of asia (modern day turkey) and a crapload of other places
that's the empire source: had to learn about it in latin class
the city of rome is just the city itself and nothing else |

k first of all the romans never conquered even part of ireland
"that's the empire source: had to learn about it in latin class

rome refers to the empire, the republic and the city
consider the phrase "ancient rome"
"gd should be the greeks"
no GD should be Phoenicians because Carthage was a Phoenician colony and RT is Carthage |
