| Body weight, mass, and fat doesn't have anything to do with growth, you grow by doing exercise, eating correctly, and sleeping well. That helps bones and muscles grow without any problems, you don't have to be fat first are you joking me? |

@Mant Actually, that's pretty accurate. I've never been relatively fat, and I'm just over six-foot. I got lots of rest, and ate (relatively) well.
My question is what kind of benefit comes with being tall? Sure, you can reach the top shelf at the supermarket, but when did height become an evolutionary priority? (Wasn't five-nine-ish pretty tall just a hundred years ago?) |

well apparently we both got plenty of nutrition and fat would correlate with getting tall since fat kids are probably getting enough nutrition
the fact that you got plenty of rest does not mean that it had an effect in your getting tall

| You have to use the energy from the food you already ate, if it's a good diet you will already have Vitamins A, B and C in your system. Exercise doesn't exactly help you grow, but it helps you develop. And when sleeping the body can use it's remaining energy for cells to reproduce faster, sometimes you can hear children's bones like stretching when they are asleep. |

Fat isn't a vitamin. Fat is excessive calories that coagulate into jiggly fun-bags on your neck, thighs, and chest. There is no nutrition in fat: the fact that a fat person is fat should attest to this.
Also, that second line. 'Irony police, arrest this man!' |

| Vitamin E, Iron, Carbohydrates, Potassium, etc. Different nutrients work in different things, Carbohydrates is the best bet. |

Why would the body store fat if it were inherently bad?
There is a reason Roman soldiers would intentionally pack on pounds before being sent to distant parts of the Empire. They knew they'd need it for the marching.

I assume this is in response to my question concerning what the body uses fat for?
The body uses fat for energy.
Please try not to dodge my questions.
You said the body uses energy for growth.
I guess carbohydrates would work too, but again, we're not sure when the body is growing -- if it's during the sleep, as you said, then it's probably using excess calories from the day, which by then would probably be stored as fat. |

As a relatively tall person, I can say with confidence that I wasn't fat before I was tall. M'kay? |

| Yep, but that's what exercise is for, if you want to be healthy you have to have an amount of every nutrient possible, having an excess of fat can cause the jiggly fun-bags that the other guy mentioned, other nutrients are quickly used by the body. But let's get back to the point. You need to eat well and exercise well, aswell as sleep well to grow, but then genetics come in; You're not gonna be tall if you're to son of short parents, unless of course their grandparents were tall. |
