I'm a bigot. I love to argue, and there's nothing I like more than a good debate.
My problem is that I get too into it. Once I'm baited, it's hard for me to keep my cool.
OT, please teach me the ways of the master debater. |

| Stop being a bigot. Have respect for the other person. Feel free to pause a moment and check yourself. |

@Nick Respect is earned. The world has to impress me before I start taking it seriously.
Wait a minute, I've got it! If I just assume everyone is a troll... |

@Fracta
But you must have a "minimum amount of respect", so to speak, for your opponent. Respect them as a fellow human being, and respect their right to a differing opinion and viewpoint. It might help calm your emotional intensity. |

@Nick Minimum respect is a given. Nobody has ever managed to earn so much of my ire that I cease to see them as a human being. As for opinions and viewpoints, I try to avoid touching those, unless they're trying to present them as fact (i.e. in religious debates).
I guess my biggest problem comes from banging my head against a metaphoric wall. If anyone ever wanted to beat me, all they'd have to do is deny, deny, deny. |

@Fract
If that's the case, then learn to pull out and leave them in their self-perpetuated ignorance. It's really hard, but you aren't getting anywhere otherwise. |

@Nick If it were that easy, I would've started doing that a long time ago. My persistence has paid off too many times to make that a viable option any more. Of course, that doesn't stop me from getting angry at them. It makes me want to beat them with a textbook, and shout "Learn, God dammit!" over and over.
But I don't do that. 'Cuz that's bad. |

@Nick I hear what you're saying. I don't like it, but that's probably me.
@Red My school didn't have one. Even if it did, I couldn't join it. They generally don't let alumni participate in those sorts of things. |

Same with me, except I don't like it. Every now and then I just leave the argument.
If you can learn to keep it civil, you should become a lawyer. That way you can do good while you enjoy yourself :) |

You have a deep emotional pain from this.
That is why I came up.
Find the root of the problem that causes you to be a debater. |
