[UNA] The North Union Army's Promotion Guide

Welcome to the North Union Army, affectionately known as the UNA. If you are reading this, then you are interested in becoming the best member you can possibly be. By reading this guide and abiding by the rules stated here, you are ensuring future promotions for yourself. You are also stating that you care enough about the UNA to read all of the material about this great group. This will lead you to great places, places you have never dreamed of before.

Section 1-Basic History

I may not be able to speak for all of the officers in this matter, but, the majority of us love it when someone know the history of the UNA by their heart. The North Union Army was founded by MutantChrome on June 14, 2014. After a few months, the activity level fell. The group swapped hands many times before SirMackSmith abandoned it. It was almost immediately taken np by konkeeee. He raised the activity level and got the group back on its feet. This is one of the greatest moments in the UNA's history. Our motto is "They shall never retreat from the charge of lances."

Section 2-Promotions

So, do you want a promotion? Spam my messages, then. No, don't. If you send me one message about getting promoted, you will get demoted. The only exceptions are Officer Applications and Officer Tests. Promotions vary among the ranks. If you are and Lr-Ordnance Sargent, you must attend a training to be promoted. The Exception is Volunteers. When they are seen at one of our forts, they are to be promoted immediately to Private. This is to encourage them to be active in order to get more promotions. If you are a Sargent Major, arrange a time to meet with me or another HC at Fort Grant. However, I have made it so that this is not absolutely necessary. If you can not meet with an HC on your time, then I insist you PM me the test, which will appear later in this promotion cheat sheet. Now, if you are an officer(CO+) then you have to host trainings. If you are a Second Lt. you have to host two trainings in order to be promoted. An HC has to supervise both and tell me that you hosted them. Oh, and did I mention that COs need permission to host a training? This is to help us keep track of the trainings hosted. First Lts. need to host three trainings, supervised by HC of course. Captains need to host five trainings, and, as usual, supervised by an HC. Majors, as an HR, you do not need to have permission to host a training, but you will need to have an HC there to promote anybody who is worthy of it. You need, though, a minimum of 10 trainings to get promoted. Lt. Colonels, you have to host 20 or more trainings. Make sure an HC is present, again, so that you can promote those you truly deserve it. Colonels, we are expecting 25+ trainings out of you. Next, we move on to HC. HC, if you are to be promoted, then you must be active. Activity is defined as patrolling our forts, supervising trainings, and hosting trainings. You will get promoted, all on due time. You may be wondering right now; "Why do I have to host so many trainings to be promoted as an officer?" I will tell you. It is to prevent people from becoming HR+ in two or three days. People making it to HR+ in such a short time span can lead to and HC overload, and that will lead to many reforms, as the leaders of the group try to sort out who is worthy of HC and who is not. It creates a big mess for everyone.

Section 3-Trainings

In order for a training to be official, you must go through each one of these things. First, as a Warm-Up, you will run through faces. We will discuss those later. Next, we tend to have sword fights, and then marching drills. After the marching drills, the training should have some target practice. Target Practice will include firing and charging drills. This is why having an HC present is so useful. Last in the required parts, we have the promotions. Now, an officer may decide that they would like to cover Line Battles(LB). This will be greatly helpful in real combat, as a good chunk of our battles are LBs. This is where the "pointless" faces come in. The Host may decide to have a Free for All to help you get ready for real raids when you are surrounded by the enemy. No teaming is allowed. Or, the officer may cover cannons, because these will be helpful in real combat. The host may even decide to have a time where things that you would like to do are stated, and, if reasonable, covered.

Section 4-Terminology

We are now going to cover the terminology used by the UNA. Knowledge of the terminology used will impress us officers, and help you get promoted faster. I will provide diagrams, if possible, to help you get a visual. First, the faces. These, for simplicity, are provided as if they were the first face the host called out.

Left Face Right Face About Face Center Face
Host Host Host Host

< > v ^

We then have the inclines. Left incline means that you turn 45 degrees to your left. Right incline means that you turn 45 degrees to your right.

Next up, we have a basic translation sheet for you to use.

LB-Line Battle
PR-Practice Raid
Officer-CO+
HC-Generals
FFA-Free for All. Not recommended, although they may have some usage in trainings.
PTS-Permission to Speak. This is only in effect when an officer says "PTS is in effect" To be on the safe side, however, always say PTS before you speak, and make sure to spell it out. Some officers are really OCD about that, for whatever reason.
AA-Admin Abuse. If you see any of this, report it to any of these ranks: CiC, SOW, or VCiC. This will be defined later.
STS-stand next to someone, with your shoulders touching, or awful close to it. But do not hold hands!
Holding Hands-When your torso is touching the person's next to you. Your arms will be together, and it is not pretty.
Fill Gaps- This is when someone has either stepped out of line, or has been shot down. The office will give this command, and you are to STS in however many ranks you were in before. This also makes it harder for artillery fire to hit you again.
Volley Fire- Everyone Fires at once.
Ripple Fire- One person will fire at a time, starting at the person the commanding officer chooses.
Regimental-One of the Elite groups of the UNA. These are the Engineers, Artillery, Navy, and Rangers. Being a part of one impresses us, it shows responsibility.
These will be covered more deeply later.

I now have to present to you: RANKS. This is an important part of battles, especially LBs. The Commanding Officer will give you one of these commands, and you are to comply immediately. 1s and 2s are reference numbers

One Rank(STS) Two Ranks Stagger Formation "V" Formation

12121212121212 1111111 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
2222222 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
1 1

One Rank is usually used to restore order among a group of soldiers, or, spread the men out when you have some sort of cover, such as a stone wall. Two Ranks is always used when you are in an LB. This maneuver makes it hard for enemy snipers to put a hole in your line. Stagger Formation is also only used in an LB. The first line(1) will fire when the commanding officer tells you to fire. The first line will automatically reload and fall back. The second line will then step forward and fire when they are given the command. They are then to fall back and reload while the first line steps forward again. Volley Fires will always be used in Stagger Formation. The "V" Formation is my personal favorite. The line can easily move forward while quickly replacing fallen men. To fire, the line will stop, and ripple fire from the right. Always the right of the line. Only the right of the line stars. No Ifs, Ands, or Buts. No Exceptions. The firing will move from the person farthest back until it reaches the middle of the line. Then, the firing will move towards the rear of the line again. You will reload as soon as you fire. Do not stop to see if you hit someone, just reload.

Section 5-Line Battles and Raids

Everyone loves raids. So, I shall cover them first. Raids are when the CSA comes to one of our forts and attacks us. You are to just go out, preferably in a group with an officer commanding, and attack the CSA. As you head out into battle, some of you will die. If someone near you dies, do not stop. Just keep moving. Moving targets are the hardest to hit, especially with cannons. Do not get distracted. This is where all of the trainings you have attended come into play. This may be hard, but you must pay close attention to orders so that you know what to do.

Next, the Line Battles. These have extensive commands and intricate movements, but they are important to learn, especially if you want to get promoted. Squares and Triangles are self explanatory, and both serve the same purpose. That purpose is to cover all sides when a) you are surrounded, or, b) when you have no idea where the enemy is. Ranks are pretty basic, but are useful. We will have trainings completely dedicated to LBs about every 1-2 months.

Section 6-Regimentals

We have several Regiments. Here, I will provide a description of each regiment. Here is why it matters: Officers, like me, are impressed when an LR takes the initiative to join a regimental. It shows a great sense of responsibility and a true willingness to better the UNA. Here they are:
Rangers: The Rangers is a unit that specializes in long-distance combat. We are know for our fast reflexes and ability to protect the main line from snipers and ambushes.
Navy: This Regimental specializes in water combat. They are some of the most elite men in the UNA. With their salty speech, they really get on the enemy's nerves. This is most true because our well-trained and disinclined Navy will always bring the fight to you, and win.
Artillery: This Regimental "softens" the enemy before, during, and after a main attack. They shall never stop weakening the enemy, as they have great aim with the cannons, and it is relatively safe for them to pound enemy positions even while our men are attacking them.
Engineers: If you are a whiz at scripting, or happen to be a prodigy at building, then this is the group for you. Tryouts are to be hosted by the Regimental Commander, and you will get to show off your work. You will work as a team to create forts for the UNA, and give us the advantages that we need on our turf.

Section 7-Reports

Reports are extremely useful for the HC when an incident occurs. For the sake of it, we are going to cover filing them. This model can be used for any type of report for the UNA. This does not include Regimentals, however. They should be submitted to any HC, preferably Major General+. This is what they should look like:

Type: [] Complaint [] Promotion Recommendation

If a Promotion Recommendation, what are the names of those you are recommending and why.

If it is a complaint, then fill out the information below.
Name of offender:
Rank of offender:
A detailed explanation of what occurred. I do not care if this will incriminate you, for we like honesty. It may save you from a demotion, or, in turn, get you promoted.

Section 8-Testing/Applications

If you wish to become an officer, you must PM an application to any HC. Of course, the application will only be approved if you are a Sargent Major in the UNA. This is what the application looks like:

ROBLOX Username:
A list of Past and Current Groups:
Current Regimental:
Current Rank in the UNA:
Time Zone you are presently residing in:
A few paragraphs as to why you feel that you would make a good officer. Make sure to include experience, qualifications, and, if possible, references.

Next, we have the actual Officer Test. This may be taken when, and only when, your application is approved. This test may be taken verbally, but, in order to accommodate those of you who may be residing in a time zone may hours off of Central and EST, this test may be PMed to any HC.

What are the proper commands for initiating a ripple fire?
What are the commands used in a firing line?
What are the proper commands for initiating a march?
How do you file a report of complaint?
How do you file a recommendation of promotion?
Give five examples of Admin Abuse.
Give five ways admin can be used acceptably, explain if needed.
Do you plan on managing double agents? If so, how many?
What do you do when your men disobey your orders?
When should you demote someone?

Third and last in the list, we have a High Command Test, Part One. This test is to be PMed to a Lt. General or higher. No exceptions. The way of conducting this test is to benefit you in every possible way.

List the commands used to conduct a Line Battle.
How many ranks should you divide your men into during a Line Battle?
What are the formations to be used when you do not know where the enemy is?
When do you use each of these formations?
When should you have someone skip a rank?
What is the maximum number of times a person can skip a rank?

High Command Test Part Two: This part requires you to be at a Fort, and with a group of people. This test may be taken once, and once only. You have five men left in your command, and the enemy has a party of 10 surrounding you. You are to fight your way out and destroy the enemy, all to get back to HeadQuarters. We will make sacrifices in order for you to take this test, although you may have to make a few sacrifices, too.

Section 9-Conclusion

Thank you for taking the time to read this. This cheat sheet for promotions will help you rise through the ranks quickly. A few words of advice, though. Watch out for trick questions, and not everything is as it seems. Once again, thank you for taking the precious time out of your day to help make the UNA one of the best Civil War groups on Roblox.
