I'm a huge fan of Super Smash Bros. Every Friday after High School, me and my friends went over to my friend's house and we played nothing but Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the Nintendo Wii. We occasionally also played Super Smash Bros Melee on the Gamecube, but we had more fun playing Brawl. I've been a big fan of Super Smash Bros. Ever since I played Super Smash Bros. Melee in 2006, which was when my brother gave me his Gamecube, as he now had a Nintendo Wii which was backwards compatible with the Wii. But that's not what we're here to talk about. :P
Super Smash Bros For Nintendo 3DS. The first game in the series to be released on a handheld console. It's been almost a year since Nintendo revealed Super Smash Bros for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS at E3 in 2013. Ever since it's big reveal, I was excited. I always kept up with the news, the Miiverse posts and the Big reveals such as Mega Man, Pac-Man, Little Mac and Villager. The game was a day one purchase for me. I didn't have any classes on Friday so I went straight to Gamestop before the opening time, which was 10 AM. When I finally got the game, I went straight home and played the game non-stop. Let's now into what I personally think of the game.
I personally think the mechanics and physics work really well for this installment. If you HATED tripping in Brawl, You won't be tripping anymore. For the most part, the mechanics and physics work really well for this installment. It's not as fast as Melee, nor is it as slow as Brawl. Basically, I think the mechanics and physics are just right for the roster of characters and the characters are balanced really well.
The roster is definitely the biggest in the series so far. The characters are what I think balanced well in matches, and the character selection is great for the most part. The only new character I don't approve of in the roster is Bowser Jr. I don't have anything against clone characters such as Dr. Mario, Lucina and Dark Pit, but why can't Bowser Jr. fight OUTSIDE the Koppa Clown car? This is just like what they did with Tails in Sonic Adventure 2, only it's not as bad. If Sakurai did this just to add in the other Koopa Kids, well I'm not ok with that. I honestly think people would complain over the roster being overpopulated with Mario characters. That's not saying I have anything against the Mario franchise, but they should have added in Rayman instead of Bowser Jr. There are some characters though that I think are just ridiculously overpowered. Yes, I'm talking about the likes of Bowser, Charizard and Little Mac. My friend was in an online match with other players, and he was just blown away by someone playing as Bowser. Someone seriously needs to patch this. :P Aside from those issues, I think the roster is more balanced than brawl, and some changes the characters went through helps to make them balanced with others (not including Bowser, Charizard and Little Mac)
I'm sorry to say this, but I think the stage selection feels a bit limited. Brawl had more stages to offer, but I can't help but feel that the 3DS version is lacking stages. Don't get me wrong, I think the stages are fun to play on, but I was expecting some more stages to play on. Thankfully, the Wii U Version will have more stages to offer, not to mention the return of stage builder, but I was expecting alot more in terms of stages. The stages themselves are still fun though. Whether it's the Mute City stage in all it's SNES Glory, battles with the yellow devil on Dr. Wily's Castle, Coins to collect in Golden Plains, or Power pellets to eat in the Pac-Maze, the stages are really fun to play on. It's also good to have returning stages such as Wario-Ware, Corneria, Mushroomy Kingdom and Brinstar, but did we really need to have the return of Jungle Japes from Melee, even with that painful stream that'll instantly bring you to the edge of a stage resulting in instant death? I was expecting the DK stage from the N64 Game, which is thankfully coming back in the Wii U Version.
The same problem with the Stage Selection applies to the single player modes. There's no event mode or no tournament mode, but instead we have Classic, All-Star, Target Blast, Multi-Man Smash, and Home Run Contest. There's also a mode exclusive to the 3DS version called Smash Run, which we'll get into later. Unless you plan on boosting your Global Smash Power, or you're trying to unlock some specific features/challenges, you won't find much to do with Single Player modes. That doesn't apply to Classic or All-Star mode though. The fight with Master Core might make your heart beat. It's a very challenging fight and Master Core is very menacing as a boss. I also like players determine the path they take in Classic Mode. It helps to give the players better rewards such as custom parts, powerups and Mii equipment. All-Star Mode is also fun too, but it's the kind of thing that requires skill and surival, because you'll need it in All-Star mode if you want those trophies.
As for the items, I don't have much to say, other then the fact that some of them can be some cheap, like the Galaga boss for example, and what bothers me about the items is that you can't determine how much you want the items on. You can only turn them on and off, but you can't determine how often you want items to appear. Thankfully this is fixed in the Wii U Version.
Smash Run is a mode exclusive to the 3DS version. 4 players are taken to a map where they have 5 minutes to scatter across the Map to defeat enemies, bosses, find treasure chests and take challenges to gain more power-ups and custom parts. Once those 5 minutes are up, the players are taken to a final battle. Players can't just pick the final battle they want though, as it'll be randomized. Whether it's a race to the finish, a climb to the top to see who can climb the tallest, a Multi-Man Smash or a special Smash, you better get ready and boost your stats up once those 5 minutes are up. If you're gonna go for Smash Run, I STRONGLY suggest you use the powerups. Depending on the powerups, the challenges will be a breeze, and i also suggest Smash Run to those who are desperate for custom parts. Smash Run can be a bit addicting though, because I couldn't stop myself from playing this mode non-stop. :P
I thing I find unique about this is the fact that you can customize the fighters. In order to power-up your fighters, you have to either play Classic/All-Star or get as many custom parts as you can in Smash Run. However, some power-ups can only be unlocked by completing challenges. Like i said, PLAY SMASH RUN, as this'll make collecting custom parts much easier. The only custom parts you don't have to unlock are the Mii's and Palutena, as they'll be unlocked at the very start of the game. I like this new feature in Smash Bros. it somehow helps to make characters and alternate skins stand out more from the original movesets. The one aspect of customization though that really catches my eye though are the Mii's. I really like the idea of Mii's joining in Smash Bros, but to be honest, I feel as if they're lacking with outfits to wear. They have plenty of hats to wear, but other then that, they don't have much when it comes to outfits. Aside from that, it's fun to have the likes of The Angry Video Game Nerd, Chuck Norris and Reggie joining the battle thanks to the Mii's in Smash Bros. :P
Now, about Online mode... To be perfectly honest, I don't spend much time in Online mode when it comes to Smash Bros. When I played online for the first time, I went into For Fun, and the first match lagged horribly. Thankfully when I was playing with a friend, the lag was nowhere to be seen. If you and your friends have strong internet connections, Online mode will be alot of fun, but If you're playing with strangers, it won't be much fun to play when someone is lagging horribly. And yes, the online mode here is better than Brawl's without a doubt.

Overall, for it being the first handheld console in the series, I think Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS is a great game. There may be a few problems I have here and there, but that doesn't stop my opinions on how much I like this game. The Character Roster Is Balanced well, the stages are fun to play on, regardless of how limited the stage selection is, Smash Run is really alot of fun to play, assuming you have powerups to help you along the way, and for what it's worth, I think Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS is a good time for those who are die-hard fans of the series. If you wish there was more to do such as Tournament mode and Event matches, wait for the Wii U version to release on November 21st. It'll have more things to do and more modes to offer than the 3DS Version. Smash Bros for 3DS may be lacking in Single player modes, but I'm still having a great time with it.

Oh, and you'll need BOTH the Wii U and the 3DS Versions of Super Smash Bros in order to download Mewtwo for free in Spring 2015.

am i the only one who actually read it all

Bowser had some major buffs but still very easy to counter and charizard is really poor in my opinion and little mac is pretty stong but can be countered and is not overpowered i only think rosalina and luma are a bit. Ill have to agree with you with the stages though its a bit lacking and some of the stages are really bland like magicant and clones of each other. Some like golden plains and castle wily are nifty though. And yes master core on 9 difficulty is h3ll. But you should seriously play online more its very fun and it isnt always omega laggy and try 1v1's on for glory they usually have the least lag

I'm not one to start arguments, but one can't just say a game is bad just because it's on a console he/she doesn't like.

And I promise you, My review of the Wii U Version of Smash Bros. Won't be this long. :P

BEHOLD! THE TEXT WALL OF CHINA! [£7 for a TL;DR :3]

In all seriousness, this is a solid review there. I was expecting it to be a little bit biased considering your love of the Smash games (I can't deny that I'm a fan of them (Project M :3)), however you acknowledged all the gripes you had with it and what others will be disappointed. I can't say I have played the game myself but it looks really fun to play. I want Smash Run for Wii U. Please? D: Seriously, Smash Run would look AMAZING on the Wii U. Guess we got to keep some things exclusive I guess. But(t) still... one thing I have to wonder is...
WHY MAKE MEWTWO AVAILABLE WHEN YOU BUY BOTH VERSIONS?! It makes no sense if your like me and the only this gen Nintendo console you have is a Wee U. Jokes aside, make Mewtwo available as DLC...I wouldn't mind if it was paid (like Link in Mario Kart 8) if it lived up to the hype (with, again, link in MK8 with 2 NEW CUPS AND DIFFERENT COLO(U)RED YOSHIIIIII).

Overall, this is a very nice review you have here. One gripe I had with it is... well... great wall of china text but I think it's a very good review.

9/10 - Amazingly Good Review [Tra(i)ns Approved]

[GOLD STAR!]

And that concludes the first episode of Review Reviews! :3

(And for those who want it,

TL;DR
It's good, There's a few flaws, but it's mainly good.)

Pikachu is OP, I lost so many matches against 1 in a row, and Pikachu got the props, I eventually took him out with Bowser.

Alright, okay start

"Super Smash Bros For Nintendo 3DS. The first game in the series to be released on a handheld console. Still a bit okay of a start

"I personally think the mechanics and physics work really well for this installment. If you HATED tripping in Brawl, You won't be tripping anymore. For the most part, the mechanics and physics work really well for this installment. It's not as fast as Melee, nor is it as slow as Brawl. Good, basic stuff. But please use paragraphs!

"The roster is definitely the biggest in the series so far. That's not saying I have anything against the Mario franchise, but they should have added in Rayman instead of Bowser Jr. There are some characters though that I think are just ridiculously overpowered."

Lots of bias over this. You would rather have a basic character rather than an unique one? What? Rayman's a bit of a hard character to put in, i'm suprised it will be a trophy in Wii U but Bowser Jr's great!

"Yes, I'm talking about the likes of Bowser, Charizard and Little Mac. My friend was in an online match with other players, and he was just blown away by someone playing as Bowser. Someone seriously needs to patch this. :P Aside from those issues, I think the roster is more balanced than brawl, and some changes the characters went through helps to make them balanced with others (not including Bowser, Charizard and Little Mac)"

So, you decide to not give any reason why they're overpowered?

"I'm sorry to say this, but I think the stage selection feels a bit limited. Brawl had more stages to offer, but I can't help but feel that the 3DS version is lacking stages. Don't get me wrong, I think the stages are fun to play on, but I was expecting some more stages to play on. Thankfully, the Wii U Version will have more stages to offer, not to mention the return of stage builder, but I was expecting alot more in terms of stages."

I sorta understand what you mean. I guess you can only cram in only so much stuff in a handheld.

"The stages themselves are still fun though. I was expecting the DK stage from the N64 Game, which is thankfully coming back in the Wii U Version."

ikr the water sux on jungle japes

"The same problem with the Stage Selection applies to the single player modes. Unless you plan on boosting your Global Smash Power, or you're trying to unlock some specific features/challenges, you won't find much to do with Single Player modes."

Again, they have to hold some stuff back.

"That doesn't apply to Classic or All-Star mode though. The fight with Master Core might make your heart beat. It's a very challenging fight and Master Core is very menacing as a boss. I also like players determine the path they take in Classic Mode. It helps to give the players better rewards such as custom parts, powerups and Mii equipment. All-Star Mode is also fun too, but it's the kind of thing that requires skill and surival, because you'll need it in All-Star mode if you want those trophies."

Good analysis I guess.

"As for the items, I don't have much to say, other then the fact that some of them can be some cheap, like the Galaga boss for example, and what bothers me about the items is that you can't determine how much you want the items on. You can only turn them on and off, but you can't determine how often you want items to appear. Thankfully this is fixed in the Wii U Version."

Gotta sell the wii u somehow I guess.

"Smash Run is a mode exclusive to the 3DS version. :P"

Not bad too!

"I thing I find unique about this is the fact that you can customize the fighters. I like this new feature in Smash Bros. it somehow helps to make characters and alternate skins stand out more from the original movesets."

It's a real pain to get them, having to sort through bunches of equipment nobody likes.

"The one aspect of customization though that really catches my eye though are the Mii's. :P"

Good, alright.

"Now, about Online mode... To be perfectly honest, I don't spend much time in Online mode when it comes to Smash Bros. When I played online for the first time, I went into For Fun, and the first match lagged horribly. Thankfully when I was playing with a friend, the lag was nowhere to be seen. And yes, the online mode here is better than Brawl's without a doubt."

Do For Glory 1 on 1, so much better in terms of lag.

"Overall, for it being the first handheld console in the series, I think Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS is a great game. There may be a few problems I have here and there, but that doesn't stop my opinions on how much I like this game. Really gotta paragraph this.

"Oh, and you'll need BOTH the Wii U and the 3DS Versions of Super Smash Bros in order to download Mewtwo for free in Spring 2015."
