I have a regular keyboard but my friend has recently bought a Razer blackwidow ultimate. He tells me its awesome but didn't really tell me what difference there is, even if i ask him.

I Google'd it and thought to myself is it actually worth it?

What do you guys think?

There is no difference. Calling a keyboard a "gaming" keyboard is a marketing ploy to cater to a market that has a lot of people with a lot of money to spend. The main differences include nothing but keyboards that light up and mechanical keys that wear out 99% faster than regular mechanical keyboards do.

No, calling it a gaming keyboard does nothing, but a quality mechanical keyboard is soooooooo much better than common keyboards.

I've used a "standard" mechanical keyboard since I got my first PC nearing 15 years ago. It's the same keyboard. I can type easier with it than any other keyboard. It has no distracting lights, and a newer version (since this one isn't made anymore, yes, this is my same keyboard from nearing 15 years ago) is no more than $20.

A gaming keyboard would never last this long, could never be this easy to type with, and would cost over $100 usually.

M8 do you even know what a mechanical keyboard is? You probably just have a rubber dome keyboard or a scissor switch.

A mechanical keyboard is a key that uses mechanical triggers rather than the sensor panels that are typical on the commonly-used membrane keyboards. Do YOU know what a mechanical keyboard is? Because you're making it out to be a harder concept to understand than it could ever be.

They're much easier to type on since each key is well-defined (some "upgrades" make them more like membrane keyboards and remove this factor though. Upgrades that are common on gaming keyboards.) and would never need to light up for you to know where the keys are as a result of that.
