Btooom!! and Chaos;Head (terrible and boring, made me want to beg for the average tsundere girl back.) |

Actually, I feel like I didn't give enough info in that post.
Baccano 1930's Ganster esque film, It has a non linear style of storytelling which can make it difficult to follow, but it's absoutely excellent, juggling both comedy, suspense and action flawlessly. One of the best Anime around. I'd recomend it for everyone, unless you hate non linear story telling.
Spice and Wolf Medieval fantasy anime centred around an occasionally unclothed foxgirl (No it's not a furry hen-tie anime, trust me.) And economics. Characterization is fantastic and it also juggles comedy and suspense quite well. It may be a bit difficult to get into. (If you don't follow all the economics) But even then just the conversations between the two main leads is more then enough to make up for that.
Steins Gate A slice of life/eventually psychological thriller centered around time travel, a concept it handles almost flawlessly. The humor is absolutely hilarious, with the protagonist having some of the funniest lines in anime. It takes awhile to get into it (9 episodes before the real plot gets going) but it's worth it, and the first eight episodes are still entertaining thanks to the humor and characters.
Higurashi A horror/Psychological thriller anime, focused around a time loop esque mechanic (Think Groundhog day with murder) Said time loop can be a confusing at first, but you'll get used to it. I don't really want to risk spoiling anything, though I will say that since this is a mystery/horror novel, which only really works once (The mystery and horror will be less effective on a read watch/read, unless you're just looking for all the clues you missed first time) I'd say it's best to experience it by playing the visual novel, the first 5 episodes are on the App story, it's coming to Steam and you can buy the individual episodes on "Manga Gamer" (The rest of their content is somewhat questionable though AhemHen-tieAhem)
Code Geass Mech action anime, focused around the protagonist Lelouche and hims attempts to bring down the "Holy Britannia Empire" as a masked rebel known as Zero. It reminds me a lot of Death note, with the constant "battle of wits" type storytelling that is quite fun to watch, though I feel the protagonist is done a lot better thanks to the slice of life esque moments, which really flesh him out and make him a more emphatic character (as opposed to Light)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamyia A highschool slice of life anime, centered around "The SOS Brigade." The "twist" of this anime being the title character (Haruhi Suzamyia) Is a sort of unknowning godlike figure, leading to some more interesting scenarios then you'll find in something like K-On (And less Tea drinking. The Dissaperence of Haruhi Suzamyia A movie that continues the plot of TMOHS. Watch it after the series.
Full Metal Alchemist (2003) One of the two adaptations of the "Fulll Metal alchemist" manga. I haven't finished this or Brotherhood, so I can't give a decent summary, but at least one of them are worth watching. Most people point towards Brotherhood, as it follows closer to the manga while the 2003 version creates its own story. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood The version of FMA that follows the manga
Another You've seen it
Cowboy Bebop You've seen it Trigun You've seen it Clannad A slice of life highschool romance, based off of the visual novel of the same name. It does have a lot of problems, but its humour is enjoyable enough and if you're a sucker for romance you'll probably like this.
Clannad After Stories The sequel for Clannad, focuses on life outside of highschool as opposed to Clannad which was set entirely in school. Watch this after Clannad if you liked it.
Mushishi Haven't seen it. It's critcally acclaimed. Read a summary on IMDB if you want an accuracte image of it. Monster Haven't seen it. It's critcally acclaimed. (And the idea is intriguing.) Read a summary on IMDB if you want an accurate image of it.

Oh, right two more things.
A: If you watch Higurashi watch it subbed. Almost all my other recommendations I advise you watch them dubbed, simply because that was how I watched it and enjoyed it. (The subs are probably fine if you like that) But Higurashi has a notoriously bad dub.
B: I know this is for Anime, but on the off chance you play Visual novels play "Umineko" it has an anime version which is sadly not all that special, so I didn't want to bring it up in the list, but the visual novel is absolutely fantastic. |
