| My PC is around 98 degrees when idle, I'm yet to actually clean it since I got it (April 2013), would I notice any performance increase if I did so? Also might stick some ram in there while it's open. |

I'll be the first(thanks for stealing my spot, zan) to tell ya,
Yes.
Cleaning your PC would mean less heat is stuck inside your PC,
And I've noticed something, PC's bog down when they are hot,
you will notice a moderate performance improvement if you clean your PC

| Take the fans off and blow all the dust off your heat sink. 65-70 degrees is a good idle temp. |

Yeah, clean it. If you have a laptop, get stuff out from the keyboard, open the bottom and clean it, and I recommend you get an external laptop cooler. If you have a desktop, clean it very, very regularly.

My PC is around 98 degrees when idle,
if this is in Celsius, then you are risking hardware damage. i would fix this ASAP.
if this is in Fahrenheit then you are fine. This is actually a great idle temperature.
I'm yet to actually clean it since I got it (April 2013)
Clean your PC every once in a while
, would I notice any performance increase if I did so?
maybe. if you have an AMD or Intel i5+ processor then your processor will run faster if it has good enough cooling.
Also might stick some ram in there while it's open.
only get more if you are running out of it |

It should improve performance. Most graphics cards basically downclock themselves when hot. |

@Qrypsa
If your computer runs 34 degrees at most, do you have a freaking liquid nitrogen cooling system?! |

At idle my PC runs about 22c (71.6f) On a heavy CPU demanding game it runs 55c (131f) This is at 4.6ghz with an i5 4670k @ 1.2911 Volts. If I was running stock clocks and undervolting (I could prolly get 0.8-0.9V) I would run just a hair over room temp and like 34c most...
Seriously tho clean that pc out it gon die without it. I use an air compressor and make sure not to get too close and dmg it. But two cans of air does well. |

bro, 98 degrees on idle? WOW.
bro, you have a bigger problem then you think.
that's not overheating, that's at a point where it can melt the components itself.
clean out the inside of your PC (dust), and screw your heatsink from your CPU, wash it (I usually say, blow it off, but at a temp like that your best bet it to wash it)
and clean your cpu with 99.9% (or 77%) isopropyl alcohol to get the grey stuff (thermal compound) off of it, then go to your local tech store to get a newer one to apply it back on. (usually about $10).
less = more, you want to have a little piece on it, it'll spread it self with the pressure of the heatsink.
*most important step: DRY IT throughly, use a hair dryer or somthing after you washed it with warm/cold water (never hot), and once you think it's dry enough, don't put it back, leave it sitting in a safe-spot for about a week, then put it back in.
yes, this includes you not going on your pc for about a week, but that temp is going to ruin your PC

@james
lol, many PCs get below 34 degrees (at idle) with high-end air cooling solutions or liquid cooling solutions. |

| Well after checking again my CPU is at ~60°C with CS:GO open, the 98°C must've been a blip. I'll probably get round to cleaning it anyway as any performance increase is welcome. |
