The word is allowed as long as you don't use it in an inappropriate tone

If you say 'Ass' in the 'donkey' way, it's allowed, only if you say it in that way. If you are calling someone else an 'ass' deliberately, then... in4theban

Words are dependent on context more than direct meaning. You know this is true because you may say "I know I'm going to pass this test" even though you don't actually know, you just have a feeling that you might based on your experience. This is opposed to you saying that you know the temperature outside because you've looked at a thermometer. In this case you actually do know yet both uses are correct.
Similarly, when calling something "bad-ass" the context is not negative. As soon as you use it as a negative or derogative term, it becomes profanity. |

| I'm not sure that calling yourself an ass would be appropriate because even though the word is modifying you, it is still being used inappropriately. But calling something bad-ass or saying something was kick-ass is totally fine. |

Isn't it still a swear word nonetheless @Slingshot
I mean, wouldn't you get in trouble if you told your teacher something like that? |

It depends on the teacher
Some teachers see it has a swear and that is that
Other teachers see the word as a more in depth tone of expression when other words don't fit
