| Cheesey, America's Past time means what people do to pass the time. It would be spelled Passed time if it meant it was the game of the past. The nickname has been around since long before viewership dropped. |

| Well the nickname has been around since the peak of baseball's popularity because kids used to play it to pass the time, not because it was the game of the past. |

| The ratings for the World Series has dropped lately because of wide selection of television people can watch. A casual fan would be more likely to watch the World Series, when there are only 10 channels. Not to mention Baseball is a regional game, most casual fans won't watch the World Series if their team isn't in it. |

that clearly isn't true given the 1986 world series results
the MLB has lost viewership because it relied too much on it's assumed position of "the great american pasttime." meanwhile, the NFL ramped up it's advertising and made itself more and more important until it became top dog. it also doesn't help when the NBA and NHL add generational talents into their league and the MLB goes through a steroid scandal |

baseball has been america's pastime for a long time. its not because its old, its because people can pass time while watching it.

a casual fan would turn the TV off. they aren't obliged to watch something every night.
plus you're ignoring the fact that there was less reason to watch other sports back then. bigger reason than number of channels |
