Because a 5 year old mistook it for a toy, its pretty much the gun's existance that's the problem. There was no evil intention. This is why there simply shouldnt be guns in households.

| or maybe the gun's owner should be blamed for not hiding/storing it responsibly and safely where a 5 year old couldn't reach/get it |

"This is why there simply shouldn't be guns in households." No, it's really the parent's fault for leaving the gun in a child's reach, which could lead to deadly consequences since children don't know that they could kill people with a gun, if it's loaded and ready
They should be, just kept in places so that children can't get them, and kept by responsible people

Without guns there wouldnt be this concern. Have you heard of the gun instructor case? Under supervision, complete accident.

The gun didnt belong to the parents. It belonged to a relative.

It was only because the gun instructor was stupid enough to give a child who has never used a gun before, a fully loaded, automatic uzi, when he should have really just gave the child a .22 handgun or a bb gun to start with

Normally, in response to someone wanting to ban guns, I'd normally say "people kill people, not guns" However, being a 5 year old, he/she wouldn't be developed enough to willingly shoot and kill someone, so in this case, I can see the logic where one would push to ban guns because of an accident such as this
If anything, there should probably be a law where a person is required to keep firearms out of reach of children or risk losing their license/go to jail/pay a fine

I'm pretty sure that whenever you buy a potentially-harmful item, the customer is always told to keep it out of a child's reach, like with toys, toys could be a choking hazard.
"Without guns there wouldnt be this concern. Have you heard of the gun instructor case? Under supervision, complete accident."
Yeah, why don't we ban water as well, to prevent people from drowning, or maybe ban food, to prevent choking. How about we ban hearts to prevent heart attacks? |

there's no difference it's the relative's fault, not the gun's fault
if i feed children apples with razors in them is it the razors' fault or mine? |

True enough. But still, humans do tend to forget, accidentally. Like, leaving a stove on, leaving a door unlocked, etc. Most of the time these things have enough warning to prevent major damage, but a gun on a 5 year old? I dont think that has enough forewarning.
"I'm pretty sure that whenever you buy a potentially-harmful item, the customer is always told to keep it out of a child's reach, like with toys, toys could be a choking hazard."
Ya or at least design them to not be easily chokable, like, say, Japanese capsules with air holes in them. Likewise make it so kids cant shoot that easily, at the very least, if not altogether ban them from these kinds of households.
Yeah, why don't we ban water as well, to prevent people from drowning, or maybe ban food, to prevent choking. How about we ban hearts to prevent heart attacks?
Cause banning them would also kill people. In this benefits outweigh risk. Guns, well there's controversy, so I'm not sure, I think risk > benefits here. Anyways gtg.
