During All-Star Break.
The most notable tweak?
A best-of-three final.
To summarize:
Eight teams - Canada, USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Czech Republic, & two All-Star Teams (best of other Euro countries and TBD).
Toronto is expected to be one of the venues in the 2016 tournament. |

You're kidding me? The All-Star Teams are still making the cut! I've had it. This isn't the "World" Cup of Hockey, it is the Bettman Cup!

| By the way, I didn't say the tournament was during the All-Star Break. I meant it'll be announced during that time. |

| It's like the Canada Cup and the old World Cup of Hockey that happened in 1996 and 2004. |

Top 16 Nations, 4 Pools, 8 Teams advance from pool play and do a single knockout playoffs. AKA make it a World Cup, with the World Part.

"& two All-Star Teams (best of other Euro countries and TBD)."
Oh hell no.
Literally the worst idea imaginable for the World Cup is going to go through.
This isn't the World Cup anymore. It's the Bettman Cup. |

The problem with the Rest Of World all-star team is that it was created using the assumption that European leagues wouldn't want to participate in the World Cup.
That's an absolutely stupid assumption because none of the 4 big European countries could field their very best possible team without European league players (Finland, in fact, can't even field a completed roster because they don't have enough NHL defensemen).
Another thing is that the Rest Of World team actually does have a legitimate chance to win the tournament. If this happens, then what country would have legitimately won the World Cup of Hockey? No country would really.
The players in this Rest Of World team aren't playing for their country. They're playing for the NHL's way of saying "your country sucks at hockey so you need other countries that suck at hockey to help you win". |
