Scottish MP's can vote on ENGLISH laws but we can't do the vice-versa
I personally thing scotland should just fak off.
No but seriously, Scottish MP's shouldn't be allowed to vote on ENGLISH laws, thats pathetic. English Parliament pls |

| perhaps you should have let them be independent instead of complaining about their autonomy that YOU gave them |

| The fact that the political party that gave them the powers is 90% scottish and has been for 50 years, disproves your point. a SCOTTISH party gave SCOTLAND powers. |

this isn't a modern issue though lol
this problem has its roots when they first joined the union, their autonomy and how they're represented was set centuries ago.
adjusting that will have poor results in scotland and you english should understand that |

'respect that'
Those power hungry pigs want scotland to have all the power, and england to have none.
Scotland are campaigning for them to be able to vote on english laws.
Should we do the same to them? |

i know man,
scotland basically runs Britain
-.- said no one ever
england controls all the money that scotland has, and yes we get to vote on "english" laws since it's actually "british" laws

The problem is a modern one, it actually came about in 1998 following the devolution of powers to Scotland.
The 'English' laws are actually 'English' laws. All Members of Parliament can vote on British laws, only Scottish MPs can vote on Scottish laws but all MPs can vote on English laws.
It is known as the West Lothian Problem. |

question not problem
one problem is that if an english parliament were to be abolished, all decisions it makes would have a knock on effect for the rest of the uk - since it's so dominant. if the english parliament were to reduce some sort of corporation tax, for example, the Scottish Parliament and ni/wales assemblies would feel forced into reducing them too; otherwise all competition would go to England. however, since there isn't an english assembly, the 3 countries can then compete fairly since they're all of small populations. the uk itself agrees on these issues, as sad as that may be [gib independence]

Not quite true Ross.
First of all there is no such thing as an English Parliament that exists, it's the British Parliament. Second of all corporation tax is set by the British Parliament, it is therefore universal over the whole of Britain, Scotland/Wales/England do not have individual tax rates. The issue is this - Scottish & English MPs vote on British issues, Scottish MPs vote on Scottish and English issues, English MPS only vote on English issues. Basically Scottish MPs hold more power than an English MP. |

However Scottish MPs, have a limited power on what they can vote on. The devolution was supposed to have fixed that, but the "british" government hasn't even bothered implementing many of the standards that was set out during the campaign of a 'no' vote which will then eventually lead to another independence vote and most likely the leaders of all parties yet again making false promises.

@al, they are not false promises, yet, anyway.
You can not expect powers to be given to a country from a union straight away, it will take ATLEAST 3 years before that happens.
And the fact Scotland has like 3 things it doesn't control - lol. |

I'm living in Scotland. I was a no vote, yet I am still a bit annoyed at how long the MP's are taking at giving the simplest of powers. I do want to be in the union, but it annoys me that the MP's have basically said, "We don't really want to give you the powers entirely how we promised them".

'you realize there are welsh and NI MPs too right'
Yes, the same applies to them too. MPs from Wales and NI can vote on English issues but not vice versa. |

@Val, you expect too much, it takes a very long time to process the powers into such.
It can't be done in a click of the finger like the SNP want it to be. It takes years of debating and to filter it into scottish parliament.
Annoyed at how long its taken? the vote was took 4 months ago. |

valt as much as i disagree with staying in the union i glad you agree that these powers are minimal the SP get like 3 billion pounds worth of welfare spending, but around 14 billion still stays at westminster. we get control over air passenger duty - big whoop. i believe the SP currently controls 8% of scottish tax money, but would get a tiny increase to 15% after these ridiculously sparse amount of powers are handed over.
