they just awkwardly lag behind and in combat go out of their way to get hit by you
and most hardly have any personality (like most characters in skyrim)
i don't see the benefit |

Because Serena is invincible, and therefore makes a good meatshield. Plus, extra inventory space. |

@starship
but most aren't invincible
and the game is extremely easy, there isn't any need for a meatshield
and i honestly don't see how people even run out of inventory space unless they're picking up literally every item that every enemy drops ... |

Serena is invicibile through, even after you finish the Dawnguard questline. Also, I do generally pick most stuff up, in order to sell it, in order to buy random stuff for my houses.
And considering I have a tiny armour rating, I need a meatshield. Plus, it allows me to spam restoration via healing hands. |

Only if you agree to it. I'm already a Vampire Lord anyway. |

feeling of companionship?
they don't say anything at all except specific lines for certain events. even the most detailed follower, serana, doesn't say anything except select between 1 or 2 options of dialogue when she enters/exits an area and when weather starts
a lonely atmosphere of a sole adventurer is better than an awkward silence as your follower trots behind you |

i like being alone, but i'm sure some people don't want to be alone.
did you ever consider that the player might just enjoy having a follower? |

i've never really used them they don't really contribute enough to outweigh their tendencies to constantly get stuck in doors, and on mage runs, i can't use aoe with them there |

| I have played as an archer most of the time, so followers are always a pain as they activate traps when I'm stealthing and run into my arrows in combat. |

Followers to me are only useful when I need them to be a hinder to the enemy when I download a mod with a few tough-ish bosses.
*shrugs* But that's just my opinion. |
