ireland for the irish
one federal irish republic, split up into 4 states... ulster, connacht, leinster, and munster
only then will there ever be peace... only then will the remnants of the IRA die out, and only then will the irish economy once more prosper |

I haven't been to Roscommon yet sadly.
I have however visited many counties in Leinster and Munster.
I'm all Irish, and I've traced my family back, both my mom and dad's side - they have a common ancestor dating back a few hundred years.
I used to have a TON of family members up in lovely Ulster. Now I have none.
They all left because of British oppression that took place up in the North.
It's sad, really. A huge family displaced all over one island. |

God, I love things like that. Tracing yourself back, being 100% pure. Those things are nice. Screw the monarchs
Sadly, I'm a mutt. My irish great grandfather married a swedish-english protestant and had two girls (my grandmother) and then my grandmother married a Nicaraguan from a high tier family in a small town (in which I reside in now), after that my father married a local woman which is more or less mestizo and had me.
I still have the irish style hair, chin and nose, but the rest of my features are pretty mixed. |

awkrin, those are the foreigners who wish to remain a part of the UK
they came to ireland as imperialists, exploiting the islands fertile farmlands, becoming rich off it, enslaving the locals
many irishmen in northern ireland want to secede from uk and unify with south |

There's nothing wrong about it, but it isn't interesting. Being fullblooded like you is cool, an easy to find history. I had to go through hell to find history about my grandmother's side (mass investigation for 6 months), eventually I found out Albert Pike was my great great grandmother's brother (if I remember well), one of the supposed founders of the 'Klan and "freemason". |

Yeah, I agree that that Ireland, long a province, be a nation once again!
I don't really care for the black and tans.
But after the bombings in London they really did the right thing by disbanding. |

| Yeah, I only really count my Pa's linage. I want him to claim his dual-citizenship with Ireland. That would make life so much easier. |

| There's no point in seceding from the UK kid. It doesn't do anything other than make Ireland independent. They voted for staying with the UK for a reason. |

"it was hard to find my familial records too

now that's pretty harsh how did you find them?

It's always nice to know your origins, you could investigate from which province your last name is and make a visit. |

| Unification, while great, will not really help the economy or bring about peace. There will still be lots to fight about. |

0/10 troll, almost fell for it
"the church records weren't destroyed, only the legal ones, but the church ones arent nearly as detailed"
always good to be catholic in these situations that's good to hear but at least you have some SPECIFIC knowledge
I hate it when people say "lol im irish, english, swedish, german, danish and polish xD" when most of the time they barely know where their main heritage is from especially from the people who ALWAYS claim to be irish and have no knowledge |

Easier said than done. Had to change our last name, and it was changed so much you couldn't really find out what was what.
All I really know about my great grandfather is that he was a business man that was a Presbyterian(not sure if that is the right one, but lower Catholic). Since he was a Presbyterian he was able to do dealings with both the British and the Irish Catholics.
He joined the British Army during WWII. Became an officer. Then he talked to an American General, talked to him about joining the Americans and getting American citizenship. And that was that. |

I saw this in another thread I forgot
Damn, that's pretty harsh. I wonder if the US holds info on name changes in those public information services? |

| I really don't think public records were really big during war times. But the marriage licence is the only way I think we could get the dual-citizenship. Family names is a hard thing to trace back. |
