Honestly, I see at least a few of the icon rules as completely reasonable. However, the restrictions altogether will help keep organization. The entire concept is interesting; an image that reperesents a game as a whole. Thumbnails can meet that purpose too, but some are used for other means.
Here's what I think should happen: Add icons, but do not remove thumbnails.
Why? As stated, icons are to be images that represent games for what they truly are. However, it wouldn't hurt to keep thumbnails for the purpose of bringing news of the game in a visual form. Icons would be games' images on the Games page, but thumbnails would still exist as a sort of behind-the-scenes form of expressing the games on their own respective pages. The purpose of the icons are to give the game an app-like look. The thing is, some download pages for apps include a few images of gameplay, and thumbnails can mimick that purpose.
What do you think? Do you support one side on the argument over the update, or do you support a compromise inbetween? |

| You do realize thumbnails are not being removed, right? |

| To me, the page about the update implied it. Sure, thumbnails are still here now, but that's because the update has not arrive just yet. |

Link to the page? I hadn't heard about this update until now, and it seems pretty interesting.

Thanks! I'm glad to see ROBLOX is planning on doing something about those annoying "NEW MAP" or "UPDATED" thumbnails, since half the time those just end up being clickbait or related to really insignificant changes.
Also, there's far less of a chance of a fake thumbnail actually working, due to the new guidelines. I really don't see much wrong with this update.

Bump. Also, with an icon being the first image of the game that is seen, combined with the rules, will make it harder to make a misleading game. |

Gordon confirmed that icons and thumbnails will coexist.
"From what I understand, your thumbnails won't be going away, they just won't be the image displayed on the games page. Your new icon will be on the games page display, and your thumbnails will be housed on your individual game's page in the carousel, as they are now" -Gordon |

| In that case, I don't mind this update at all. |
