So, I was born in America, so by the Law of Soil I am automatically a US citizen.
But my parents (and brother) are Venezuelan immigrants going through the naturalization process.
Venezuela recognizes citizenship by decent if: 1) At least one parent is a Venezuelan citizen (check) 2) Before the child becomes 18, the parents must establish residency in Venezuela (ie start the US naturalization process all over) (Dad established residency recently for a short period of time for a private reason, so check again) 3) Before the child becomes 25, it must show intent to want to be a citizen (Look at me here -- check)
But here's the catch: Venezuela does not allow dual citizenship. I would have to give up my US citizenship, which I am not willing to do in order to live in a country where its own military does public executions on its citizens by order of President Maduro from time-to-time.
Man, I really though I would be able to stand out and be a citizen of two countries :( |

Before I say anything, I'd just like to pull up a picture...
/kbf1VXW (made it a humorous one so I didn't get flamed at for ranting)
So anyways... "they're basically the same country" I can already tell you're not Latino... At all...
The only thing "the same" about them is that Maduro is a Colombian citizen, which is the main reason for all the riots, which is the main reason for all the public executions done by the military. |
