"The Russian Lower House speaker wants to instigate an international investigation into the 1945 nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the US military – a possible crime against humanity with no statue of limitation."
-RT
I would say this is like sending Germany to court for Nazl crimes today, but they are indeed still paying reparations. Ironic how this came from the former Soviet Union, that supposedly killed over 12 million Ukrainians by starving the country to death along with countless other war crimes that go unnoticed.
As much as I agree that the atomic bombings on Japan were blatant attacks of terror on an innocent civilian population, it is far too late to bring the United States to trial.
This is not the only war crime that the United States had committed during WW2. More Germans were intentionally starved to death in prison camps than all of the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, and yet that is intentionally ignored cause "hurrdurr the germans wuz bad lol". |

No. We dropped TONS of leaflets warning them of the attack before we bombed Japan. Both Hiroshima AND Nagasaki. |

| even though it killed a lot of people, a ground invasion of japan would have gotten a lot more killed. |

@Boeing
Rhine Meadows Internment camps. There's a book called "Other Losses" citing plenty of sources and documents supporting the claim. There's a PDF online.

Doesn't matter, it is still technically an attack to incite terror and destruction on a civilian population.
If I gave you a warning before shooting you in the face, would that make me any less of a murderer? |

| Also since some people are confused and I didn't specify, I realize there was no better way to win the war in Japan as a ground invasion would have killed far more, but that does not make it any less of a war crime according to the law. |

"Why are the Russians the ones upset over this anyway?"
there's a big mistake here
"Russians"
no, it's only one person, and he's a goofball
"Japan doesn't even seem to care now."
japan doesn't care because the us rebuilt their cities and factories as a get well gift, and that's why they're a manufacturing machine, so tokyo burning down was good in the long run lol |

Where did you hear this anyway? If this is credible then Russia is looking for trouble. Maybe they're hoping to either find a way to fix their economy or bring the USs down with it |

"As much as I agree that the atomic bombings on Japan were blatant attacks of terror on an innocent civilian population, it is far too late to bring the United States to trial. "
"TO THE JAPANESE PEOPLE: America asks that you take immediate heed of what we say on this leaflet.
We are in possession of the most destructive explosive ever devised by man. A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s can carry on a single mission. This awful fact is one for you to ponder and we solemnly assure you it is grimly accurate.
We have just begun to use this weapon against your homeland. If you still have any doubt, make inquiry as to what happened to Hiroshima when just one atomic bomb fell on that city.
Before using this bomb to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, we ask that you now petition the Emperor to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better and peace-loving Japan.
You should take steps now to cease military resistance. Otherwise, we shall resolutely employ this bomb and all our other superior weapons to promptly and forcefully end the war.
EVACUATE YOUR CITIES.
ATTENTION JAPANESE PEOPLE. EVACUATE YOUR CITIES. Because your military leaders have rejected the thirteen part surrender declaration, two momentous events have occurred in the last few days.
The Soviet Union, because of this rejection on the part of the military has notified your Ambassador Sato that it has declared war on your nation. Thus, all powerful countries of the world are now at war with you.
Also, because of your leaders' refusal to accept the surrender declaration that would enable Japan to honorably end this useless war, we have employed our atomic bomb.
A single one of our newly developed atomic bombs is actually the equivalent in explosive power to what 2000 of our giant B-29s could have carried on a single mission. Radio Tokyo has told you that with the first use of this weapon of total destruction, Hiroshima was virtually destroyed.
Before we use this bomb again and again to destroy every resource of the military by which they are prolonging this useless war, petition the emperor now to end the war. Our president has outlined for you the thirteen consequences of an honorable surrender. We urge that you accept these consequences and begin the work of building a new, better, and peace-loving Japan.
Act at once or we shall resolutely employ this bomb and all our other superior weapons to promptly and forcefully end the war.
EVACUATE YOUR CITIES."
leaflets given to people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki
One sure mark of a fool is to dismiss anything that falls outside his experience as being impossible. |

"except bombing the hell out of them"
none of us are sending our tanks in after them, we're just picking them off
and it's really more of a diplomatic thing to get on the good side of middle eastern countries, and they know what's up, they're not buying it either |
