Unwanteds
Based off of the book Unwanteds (actually a series), though the lore is different and the plot line will be changed.
⧗⧖⧝⧖⧗
Our story starts with a simple Once Upon a Time, in a land far far away. After all, a story has to start somewhere. Thus I give you the beginning, the introduction if you will, to our tale. ⧖⧖⧗ Introduction ⧗⧖⧖
The land some people called home sat beyond the seas, the glaciers, and the fog. It was blanketed in mist, earning it’s title Mist Haven. Other stories like ours recount the history of this far away place, though none exactly know what happened some centuries ago to change Mist Haven. It was once a land of peace before the transformation; a land of great prosperity and tranquility. Then, stories tell of an evil entering Mist Haven. It is concluded that they destroyed all of the history containing any key information to Mist Haven’s past. Beyond ‘a great evil entering’, we have nothing to elaborate on anything in the land.
A huge stone wall, thought to be many inches thick, was built around the whole of Mist Haven. The people were forced to obey the evildoers. We can conclude that the great evil was a sole person or a crew of people, because of the current state of Mist Haven now. A manor was built to house the evildoers, or officers as we call them, and small cramped buildings housed the former residents of Mist Haven.
One thing led to the next, and a system of control was formed. There were three classes of people:
Unwanted, Necessary, and Wanted
People were sorted into these three groups at the choosing ceremony every year. You were sorted into a group when you turned thirteen. Everybody was forced to wear bland uniforms that matched their class, and creativity was not allowed. Any type of creativeness, such as drawing, singing, or dancing was strictly forbidden. You could not express who you were as a person, or you immediately were to become an Unwanted at the choosing ceremony. Parents with an unwanted child were shamed, but not sent to be executed with their child unless they gave birth to two Unwanteds.
Wanteds were people who the officers desired for a purpose, who had shown their worth in a particular skill. These people were the cream of the crop and treated quite nicely. Usually because of this, they were arrogant and vain people. However, these people didn’t get out of working for the officers. They had to go to work all day every day, until sent home at evening to eat dinner and go to sleep.
Necessaries were the middle class. They weren’t particularly wanted, but needed by the officers. This was the common group. You were usually sorted into this class by default or if the officers were running low on workers for a certain job. The most usual jobs for this class were farmers, ordinary laborers, servants, and guardsmen.
Unwanteds were people who had shown their creativeness in some way, or were unwanted because of a physical or mental barrier. These people were immediately sent to the executioner for instant death. As the head officer, or leader says, “There are no need for people who care to express themselves; they can rile up a rebellion, which could cause Mist Haven to fall into havoc.”
Nobody could escape the choosing ceremony or leave the land. It is believed that beyond the wall are beautiful oceans and distant lands, but nobody will ever know.
⧖⧗⧖ Plot ⧖⧗⧖
You, an Unwanted, were loaded onto a bus with the other Unwanteds and sent to a structure away from the other people of Mist Haven. The officers escorting the lot of you took the bus back to the manor and other residences when you arrived. You entered the gate to the place where you would be executed: a small square of land surrounded by gray walls with no roof. You waited in line for your death. The executioner appeared, a burly man with an axe, and a black hood over his head with eye slits. Then, as the first person in line rested his head on the chopping block, the executioner paused as an old man seemed to just appear out of thin air. He had purple robes and a long flowing white beard, with a wrinkly and joyful face. Murmurs of confusion and distrust went through the line of people.
“Not to worry children, or teens. You are not being executed today. This may be hard to explain, but you all have shown your creativity and knack for magic,” the old man said.
Everybody in the line seemed to pinch themselves. The executioner took off his hood, revealing an equally joyous face as the old man. He dropped the axe onto the ground.
“If you all will follow me through this portal…,” a swirling circle of blue and gray appeared behind him, “… I will show you our school for magic. Don’t worry, this will be easier to understand as the tour progresses.”
The line of children entered the portal. You warily stepped in, surprised to land on your hands and knees in a grassy field. The other children sat disoriented around you. You looked up, seeing a giant building of eminent importance and grandeur loom before you. On your left was an expanse of sparkly blue stuff. From the buckets of water your family received, you could conclude that it was a giant mass of water. On the other sides of the school was forest. Behind you was a massive wooden gate, and beyond that was the portal you had gone through. To your surprise, people who looked like giant trees with faces stood on the other side of the gate.
What have you gotten yourself into?
⧗⧖⧖ Important Notes ⧖⧖⧗
In Mist Haven, think Amish. No technology, but general supplies are used. Nothing is modernized.
At the school of magic, think more modernized. There will be some high-tech gadgets and stuff, though the clothing is the same.
You will pick a talent of creativity, like art, singing, or something like that. The weapons you receive and the magic you are taught center around this talent. Everybody will be different.
Everybody is thirteen.
I don’t want to reveal too much, but this role-play will involve a lot of fighting and stuff like that, as well as regular type school things at the beginning. It will probably progress quickly.

Opening Post
As you looked past the wooden gate and the portal, you were surprised to see that behind the portal the grass abruptly ended and the dirt of Mist Haven started. You could even see the houses and the building you were to be executed at in the distance. If the school was right next to Mist Haven this whole time, and all that separated them was a portal and a gate, how did you not see the school before? A special cloaking spell or something?
The old man in the robes stood in front of the group. Behind him, older students at the school walked around in the grassy area.
“Welcome to the school for Unwanteds,” the old man said. “I am Headmaster Graham. Before you start spurting out questions, I will guide you on a tour around the school and explain some things. The most commonly asked questions are ‘Why are some of the teachers here not human?’, ‘How is the school not seen if we are right here by Mist Haven’, ‘What is the purpose of training us as Unwanteds’, and ‘What is that glittering blue water over there?’. So, to begin, I will answer those questions.
“Some of the teachers are not from the land of Mist Haven. I myself am not from Mist Haven either. I broke away from the officers as soon as they formed the choosing ceremony you all just attended. You will see many teachers who resemble animals you have never seen before.”
“The school is under a special kind of spell to block any viewing from Mist Haven. As I grow older, the spell grows weaker. This is not anything you all should worry about, as I have many years still left in me and I will do all I can to maintain the spell.”
“The purpose of training you all is to save past, present, and future Unwanteds and to save the land of Mist Haven from corruption. The magic and weapons we give you are to train for the worst case scenario of us being seen by the officers. Creativity is a great thing that people should use, and for it to be prohibited is insanity.”
“The glittering blue water is called an ocean. You all have never seen it, but Mist Haven is surrounded by the ocean. You all will be able to spend time swimming in the ocean, as long as you watch out for certain underwater creatures.”
“Now stand up all of you. Let the tour begin. As we walk, you may all get acquainted. I am sure you have seen each other around Mist Haven."

I would yawn loudly, thinking of what just happened. So all the information about how the Unwanted were executed was wrong. That was a nice relief that I wouldn't had my life torn away at that moment.. I'd chuckle a bit as I thought to myself as I would sigh a bucket ful of relief. As I would continue onward, thinking about the school and how long it would last considering the Headmaster telling us his information.

As Kat followed the headmaster guy, she spotted some adults and older people walking around. Were they to stay here for their whole life? She wondered if the school had enough space to fit everybody. She looked over at the ocean. It was beautiful and quite magnificent. She had never seen the likes of it before. She took a deep breath of the fresh air. If they encouraged creativity here, maybe she could get out of the uncomfortable Necessary clothes of her family's ranking. She remembered seeing their highly disappointed and almost disgusted faces as she was declared Unwanted. She looked down at the ground, just happy she wasn't going to be killed.

Sarah followed the headmaster, taking a few moments to glance around the scenery around her. It was so different from when she was back before, but it was a welcome change. The ocean looked beautiful. The grass was nice, too. Sarah was glad to escape death and execution. One thing she was uncertain of, however, is what kind of training they would have. It was all so vauge, from how he'd describe it. To save unwanteds and Mist Haven from corruption, that was fine, but how would they do it? Would they be really teaching them magic and how to fight with weapons? That sounded really cool to her. Of course, she very much doubted she could come back to live in Mist Haven, seeing as she was considered unneeded and unnessesary, but would she really want to? Sarah would much prefer to live here than a place where she would be executed anyways.

Kaeden had three words in his mind. Magic and Weapons. It seemed so crazy to think about magic. What was even more crazy was the fact that he was being trained to save unwanteds from Mist Haven. Kaeden's eyes wandered towards his peers, carefully studying them. If he was staying here, he might've as well made the right choice of friends. After all, he didn't want to die in an early age. His eyes gazed upon the headmaster, terrified and impressed of the fact that he himself was keeping the school hidden this whole time. He decided to stay on his good side. He then looked at the "ocean" as the headmaster called it. He never saw anything like it before. It was beautiful. Kaeden would much prefer living here than in Mist Haven. After all, who would want to live back there?

Alex Chambers
Alex raised a brow, confused by all the information that was spiraling toward him at once. He tried to soak it all up, but he was bound to forget half of what had been said within five minutes; it was like trying to get a sponge to collect more water when it was already bloated with liquid. He glanced around, taking in the surroundings that the Headmaster had described, silently marveling at them. While he looked around, he caught sight of someone he recognized out of the corner of his eye; a neighborhood boy that Alex recognized... Kaeden was his name. Alex glanced around a bit more as the Headmaster began to move forward and continue with the tour, finding nobody else he could converse with, so he made his way over to Kaeden. He wondered if Kaeden would even recognize him. They had talked a few times and been in the same school together, but memory fades quickly.
"Hey, Kaeden," Alex started once he had gotten close enough to the boy, "Do you remember me?" Alex reckoned it would be better to ask if Kaeden had even remembered him before asking if it would be okay for the two to stick together through this uncertain land away from the Mist Haven.
(Alex is speaking with Kaeden.) |
