"Has no future"
Nintendo cancels Evo2k13, sponsors Evo2k14, then Sakurai says smash has no competitive future.
k
I feel like making a meme where Sakurai's face is in the middle and the top says "Nintendo sponsors Evo 2k14" and on the bottom says "Says Smash has no competitive future." But then again, I guess all of the Evo stuff was Nintendo in general, not Sakurai. Sakurai has always seemed to dislike Smash becoming a competitive game. But Smash is a fighting game, so I think naturally it easily becomes competitive...

| Sakurai is trying to keep it from being competitive. He wants the game to have a level playing field where nobody has a massive advantage over another player. Remember, one item like the home run bat can be game-changing. Remember how wave dashing was present in Melee? Highly skilled players dominated other people and anyone who knew how to pull it off was a "pro" and ruined the game when they played with friends. In Brawl, Sakurai decided to remove wave dashing. This upset the competitive community but it made the game more fun for the average Joe's who wanted to have fun playing Smash. |

| It does have a competitive future, just Sakurai doesn't want it that way. |

| I feel like they should just have options for Comp and Casual, kind of like CS:GO. Wave Dash allowed in comp, not in casual, etc. |

| That would be quite nice. In Comp mode, all those "hardcore" players could select only tournament legal maps so they can't whine about disappearing platforms and other "gimmicks". |

Yeah, it seems casuals don't really care about boring physics since they're having too much fun with items :P |

@sunjin
It would probably solve everything, but Sakurai seems to not want smash as a competitive game AT ALL. |

why do you think he added tripping in Brawl?
brawl wasn't meant to be competitive like Melee, it was supposed to be Sakurai's idea of a for fun game
its weird because sakurai changes his mind a lot first he's saying melee was his best work then he says it was an abomination that never meant to exist then he says brawl is his last game |

smash isnt a very competitive game though
anything can have tournaments, rock em sock em robots even had tournaments, that doesnt make it a competitive game |

Yeah, I know it's not exactly Sakurai's decision but Nintendo also seems to not know whether to support or try to kill the competitive community as of right now. |

@Eguanazor
Well anything can be "competitive" basically. As uncompetitive as Brawl was, people still tried to turn it into a competitive game and it's going to be at APEX this year. Melee just happens to be one of the most in-depth fighting games, and in the competitive community, fighting games are always at tournaments. |

@cool
actually Brawl can be played competitively but it's more strategic, defensive and punishing-based than Melee's combo-based, aggressive gameplay
being defensive doesnt mean its not competitive however tripping really defined it as "creator doesnt want us to play competitively" still did, though
there's a reason there's a Brawl tierlist and important tournaments no longer since SSB4, though |

Well, yeah, I guess Brawl is still competitive.

0<*It was a mistranslation.*>0 Noticing it now? I'm pretty sure the translations have been botched up before. Just keep that in mind when you read interviews or articles that were originally in Japanese, aye? |

@ferel 1v1 is okay
But if you are playing with 4 players it's worse then playing TF2 on an Australian server. |

@wiki
try playing someone who you dont need all that timing with i tried playing meta knight, and with his now-tiny hitboxes, any input lag at all gives me a hard time
on the other hand, something like charizard is like what input lag |

@ferel Bowser is okay even with lag, but Sonic...makes me wish they didn't replace his "You're to slow taunt" |
