-- Discovering the Truth - Chapter 0, Prologue
From near and afar, it was obvious to come to the realization of my inevitable demise. While the opposition stands stiff, merely several of hundreds of yards away: our small band of bretheren, young and old, hastily braced ourselves for the upcoming volley of shock and awe. The Vaktovians, as they were refered to, had us on your knees. We were cold, hungry, and weak; we had no chance of winning this battle, even with our will to survive. We had lost from the beginning; there was no doubt.
These Vaktovians were strong warriors; decimating entire star systems, one planet at a time. Lead by their Emperor, Vaktus, they searched and annihilated every being to extinction, from the pariah to wealthy merchant societies. They were feared throughout the universe; starring in horror stories to frighten men and women, and are used as symbolism of combatantship. Vaktovia, their homeworld, served as a hub for training children, utilizing them as mass-killing machines. Though, it was easy to see that these soldiers were merely pawns in a large game of chess.
As the opposing force slowly marched toward us, we could see the uniform ranks of the oncoming soldiers. Standing in straight lines, arm width apart, they marched much like those who fought in colonial warfare wielding muskets and blunderbusses. They continued their march toward us and we couldn't muster any courage to oppose them. Step by step, foot by foot, one clank of the metal exo-suit that protected them at a time, they marched. Clank, clank, clank, you'd hear. The continuous sound that was as steady as a heartbeat, but as frightening as death, itself.
Death was upon us, death surrounded us, death overwhelmed us; death was more abundant here than in the writing of Edgar Allan Poe. All we could think about, was death. We had nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, we were trapped in the open, beautiful, plains that was filled to the brim with death. Death itself is a comical concept, isn't it? What happens after death? Was there an afterlife? Are you finished after death? Do you lose your character? So many questions to be asked, and our answer stood merely ten to fifteen yards now ahead of us. My life flashed; I saw my childhood; I saw my depression; I saw the many people who I've loved, but who've been deceased, by death; the same death that stands before us.
You may fancy me mad, many would, but in my situation; and all that has happened: I was looking forward to death. The magical place that no one has any answer to; what could it be out there? Could it be our worst nightmares or our most favorable dreams? I will admit, I was quite intrigued; many years of wondering, and now here is the answer! Mad, I am not.
My answers did not come, I was not killed; however, I was dragged away by these red and black menace that refuse to kill me. They're slaughtered many men, women, and children; but why not me? What have I done? Why am I of importance to them? What knowledge or skills do I have that would interest them in any way? Do these Vaktovian menace not understand that I am of no use? I just want to die; I want to discover of the secrets of death; I want to unfold the truth what I have been yearning over for many, many years. Just let me die. |
