Most people throw it similarly like how you throw a ball. You put it to your ear, put it in front of your body, put your behind your ear and throw it over your head. Doesn't work for me. I grip it with 2 fingers on the end of the laces, the other 2 gripping the football. I squeeze tightly, but leaving a gap inbetween my hand and the ball. I put it in front of my chest and relax, flex my arm tight, pull my arm back a bit, swing my arm over my chest in a 90 degree angle, and flick my wrist hard. It spirals perfectly and goes pretty far, but am I throwing it weird? |

How far do you have to throw to get on a team? I want to be QB. Also, in 9th grade, do you use an official sized ball of junior? |

just my opinion:
for your grip, it's just about finding the most comfortable and effective grip for you, everyone differs and there isn't a standard.
for your positioning, it's about being where you can secure it quickly and safely, yet also be able to get into your throwing motion quickly.
throwing technique is finding the most efficient and effective, you want to be able to throw it quickly but have accuracy and distance on your throws.

I'm 14, and I find this embarrassing... I can spiral an official sized ball great, but I can't throw it that far... maybe 25 or 20 the farthest. But junior and peewee sized I can throw 30 to 45 yards with a good spiral and everything. My hand is just too small. |

@death,
Do you mind giving me some throwing tips, or explain how you throw it? I just want to improve. |

@case,
I don't go to the gym, my parents won't pay for it or take me there. So I workout every now and then at my house (I normally do it very early in the morning, so not always.) But dude, trust me, I'm very strong, and I have muscles. |

do arm exercises to throw farther. you can throw any way you like as long as it can get to the receiver correctly. typically a QB puts its arm with the ball back and throws across the chest, twisting their torso.

don't get discouraged. they probably practiced day in and day out to improve their muscles and their throw.

@padam,
Do most people who tryout for QB good? Like do they have to be required to throw it 50 yards, or does it normally happen after they have several practices. If that makes any sense. |
