sound a little too elaborate for a game like roblox.
it's like a wal-mart trying to pass itself off as a wholefoods.
i know roblox claims it's the "best game platform" out there *cough* steam *cough*, but i liked it better when roblox just called "developing" building.

Alright, let me just list the reasons.
1) Steam is a place to purchase games- it is not a PLATFORM.
2) ROBLOX is an incredibly easy program to master.
3) You can make money off of ROBLOX.
4) Developing can be from scripting to building- not just building.
5) Try to use grammar or your post will be looked down upon even further.
6) If you have a problem with this- go back to Club Penguin. |

"1) Steam is a place to purchase games- it is not a PLATFORM." --Not entirely sure, since I don't ever actually use Steam; but I'm about 90% sure that you can upload but not develop on steam, and if you can- just see #2. |

| Alright guys, lets try not to pick on him too much. He's either a troll or hasn't tried to develop a game on ROBLOX thoroughly. |

| no cuz axe is not right. they are building and scripting. developing means creating your own work. this is just using whats already there, and working from there. its still hard, but its not true developing. |

I'm sorry- what? I didn't say use free models everywhere... Developing means either/both scripting or/and building...

define "easy" I script. I don't delve in to Lua because the syntax I swear reminds me of long compounds of chemicals that I have to remember for chemistry

@axe
this 'platform' is nothing more then some fancy building blocks. everything you use in studio is a pre made asset or method one way or another. you can argue some things like tables, but any function that invokes a pre-built action (e.g. OnTouch) is ROBLOX, not you. if you really wanted to develop, you'd start from scratch. you'd get to define what a 'touch' is.
one of my friends disliked the limitations imposed by studio and thus started on unity. it's a nice step in between total scratch (unity has alot of pre-made assets!) and roblox. |

Didn't say that a lot of it wasn't ROBLOX- I mean after all, ROBLOX was made to have user friendly use- easy to understand and easy to get new developers scripting. If nothing else- ROBLOX is a good place to start learning how to script.
Also, I think we're getting away from the point of the original post- which is the assessment of whether or not developing is in fact developing on ROBLOX.

@EvilAltOfDoom
Finally, someone who understands. Yes, Unity is a good example of a *professional* game platform.
I think of ROBLOX being a sandbox [which it is]. If you really want to make your own games, ROBLOX is a start, but ultimately you would use something like Unity, etc.
You pretty much nailed it: "this 'platform' is nothing more then some fancy building blocks" |

It's mainly for scripting reasons. It used to be called building, when the script wasn't too advanced, but now people have the technology to make games that might as well be on consoles.
One giant head to rule them all |
