I think ROBLOX should support Ubuntu.
Lately there have been many games which work on Ubuntu, and this trend is picking up steam as a result of, well, Steam. Thanks to Valve's work with nVidia video drivers on Linux are now FAR better than they used to be, to the point that they're now just as good as, if not better than, the Windows and OS X video drivers.
Now would be a great time for ROBLOX to begin working on porting their game to Ubuntu with SteamOS just around the corner. SteamOS is Debian based, and Ubuntu is a derivative of Debian. As a result, by porting the game to Ubuntu not only are you supporting the most popular Linux distribution, but you're also laying the foundation for SteamOS support.
It would be awesome for ROBLOX to be a "launch title" once SteamOS launches and the Steam Machines are available. While ROBLOX is not on Steam that doesn't mean that users will be unable to access it on a Steam Machine. SteamOS has a fully functioning desktop environment.
As well, from what I've read in ROBLOX's blog posts it seems that part of ROBLOX's mission is to inspire younger audiences to get involved with computers and learn a lot about them. I would argue that Ubuntu (and other Linux distributions) are the absolute perfect environment to support that mission. What makes it so perfect is how open it is, you can play with anything and change anything. On top of that, it's also extremely accessible due to being free.
So in short, why should ROBLOX support Ubuntu? 1. The industry is making a push in this direction 2. Ubuntu is highly accessible due to both it's price and user friendliness 3. Ubuntu is the perfect environment for children to learn about computers 4. SteamOS is on the horizon |

Just understand THIS:
- SteamOS still goes by Steam's rules. That means you got to create a Steam account, buy one priced game to chat with the community to active your account, and all user created support goes to the Steam Workshop.
- Being a derivative of Debian doesn't mean that it would support all other operating systems. While I understand that there is a bunch of Debian-based systems, certain Robloxians might use SUSE-based systems, Slackware-based systems, Gentoo, etc.. It would increase the complains on the suggestion forums. (Ex.: "we want 2 haev rublocks on gentoo!!1!") Don't also forget that Roblox needs to port their client to all graphical user interfaces (Ex. Unity, XWindows, etc..)
- Porting the game to Linux is NOT "laying" the foundation for SteamOS. In case you didn't realized, there is a really large collection of Linux games for Steam that also works on SteamOS.
- Saying that ROBLOX should *only* support Ubuntu is bad. They should support all distributions of Linux, and there's not only one: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg |

To use Steam on SteamOS yes, but to use the OS itself you don't need a Steam account; although that kind of defeats the purpose of having SteamOS.
I'd love for ROBLOX to support all Linux distros, but the problem is they can't. There's too many. In order to test ROBLOX on each distro and then provide support for each distro would cost too much. Which is why I suggest Ubuntu only, as it's very popular and there's many Debian based systems out there. As well, if it works on one Linux distro the community will get it working on all the others. So ROBLOX should only officially support one or two most popular distros.
I don't see how porting to Linux isn't laying the foundation for SteamOS. Unless you mean they wont have to port it to SteamOS after porting to Linux; but that's what I meant by laying the foundation (as in, it will be ready to go on SteamOS if it's ported to Linux).
Again, the reason I say ROBLOX should only support Ubuntu is because it's cheaper for them, easier for them, and makes it more likely for them to actually port the game to Linux.
SteamOS has not been "released" yet, it's still in beta. The beta may have started back then, but the OS has not officially been released yet (it's an open beta though, anyone can play around with it).

Porting a game to *Buntu costs as much as porting it to other distributions. But everything else you said is true. |

I'm aware that porting it to Ubuntu would cost as much as any other distro, but my point is that supporting only one distro is cheaper than supporting every distro.
And the community would be able to get it to work on any other distro anyways, as long as it worked on one, as then it's just a matter of libraries which are available to all distros, but not necessarily installed or in the location the game expects.
I'd love for it to be supported on all Linux distros, but I'd much rather it actually get ported to one distro. I don't care which distro, as long as one distro gets it cuz then I can get it to work on any distro I plan to use. The reason I suggest Ubuntu is it's the most popular distro, and the one every other company is supporting as well. Plus a lot of distros seem to be Debian based. |

| They've came close to it, but they ditched the project because you can already play ROBLOX using Wine or something like that. |

| That's not a vaild reason for ditching the project. They don't currently bundle the game with WINE, so should either port it themselves, or set up a WINE wrapper themselves. But personally, I'd much prefer a proper port. |

I support being able to play Roblox on Linux! I have Linux Mint Cinnamon installed on another partition. (It is Debian based much like Ubuntu is.)
It will be a happy day when we can download Roblox.deb and install it. ^u^
