If you got the same punishment you gave to your victim, less crime would happen
It would be a pretty straight forward system

I remember hearing a saying about "An eye for an eye would leave the whole world blind"

The sad thing is I forgot who said that.

The system was more logical than just jail time

The harsher the punishment, the less people will commit crime

@slayer

No, they kill you simply
Would be cool to bring them back 11 times though

Eye for eye would lower crime
Jail is nothing compared to getting killed back

what if you stole a piece of candy from someone, but didnt have any candy when they accused you of the crime

would they give you a piece of candy then take it away from you?? or wait for that ONE MOMENT you just so happen to get a piece of candy then slap it out of your hand

idk man this sounds too confusing to be effective

also generally speaking the idea of "an eye for an eye" is viewed as barbaric in modern society and any developed country would be shunned for practicing it

"The sad thing is I forgot who said that."

That statement was originally provided by "Mohandas Gandhi".

Adding an "Eye-For-An-Eye" based system would create various ethical issues.

@Anony

not to mention the literal interpretation which is basically "If some bastard blinds you, we'll blind him back"
honestly it's just really ineffective and looked down upon and correctional facilities could work much better provided they aren't completely insane

Wouldn't this teach people that revenge is always the answer?

"Just because" is not a reason not to implement something
"its looked down on generally in developed countries" is a just because statement

"Wouldn't this teach people that revenge is always the answer?"

It would work in both directions.

Individuals often retaliate against 'unethical' behavior of the government by mimicking their actions.

On the end of the spectrum, however, It would likely encourage individuals to develop an aversion towards the behavior provided by the government.
