The Sharpshooter Mines - Map Building Guide

Want to help build maps for this mining/shooter game? (Why am I asking this, it's probably the only reason you'd be looking at this thread!) Read on for everything you need to know.

----- SUMMARY OF THE GAME -----

8 players, each with their own factory at an edge of the map, compete to mine ore to smith stronger guns and help build up their factory. Each server randomly chooses a map at the start, and that is what is played the entire time on that one server. It is pretty much an open arena (there can be buildings scattered around the map) During nighttime, PvP is enabled, and players may kill each other and loot most of the victim's ore. Gun battles here are about good accuracy and smart movement, using the map to find cover and remain safe. Health regenerates quickly after a couple seconds of not being damaged. Jumping is limited (no constant bunnyhopping)

----- REQUIREMENTS -----

The map must fit in the provided area of the main baseplate in the center. (DO NOT BUILD ANYTHING ON TOP OF THE PLAYER BASE AREAS - THEY ARE ONLY GIVEN TO YOU FOR REFERENCE, THE SPACE WILL BE FILLED) Try not to put anything -too- close to the edges, or they will be right in front of the player bases.

It is recommended to turn outlines off in Lighting while building, since outlines will be off in the real game.

The map does not have to remain flat! You can put whatever you want on top of the baseplate I've given you. Some elevation changes are great.

Maps need to have the same kind of layout on each side, so that every player has equal opportunity and fairness. You don't necessarily have to copy and paste the same thing 4 times (everyone loves some variety!) But you can't have, say, a large wall on one side and then a tiny barricade on the other end of the map. You can build 2 similar kinds of walls, though! In the inner third of the map or so, some asymmetry is acceptable, since the players are all walking a similar distance to get to the center anyway. Make the center interesting, that's where the intense battles will happen!

I do expect a certain degree of quality in these maps, both in terms of building quality and how interesting it would be as a shooter map. There should not be a ton of straight/open areas for people to just shoot across the map. There needs to be various areas for people to take cover - what fun is it if you can't move anywhere without getting shot? Each part of the map should be interesting.

Think of a cool theme for the map. Don't just slap random models together and call it a day. (On that note, free models should not be used)
You may not have any scripts in your map.
Maps should be no larger than 7k or 8k parts - I want the game to be a lag-free experience for everyone!

GOOD, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
Distribute all the different types of mining zones across the map. You may duplicate them and resize them however you want. The game will randomly spawn certain ores in these areas. They must all be placed directly on top of the ground, and they may not pass through any other objects (except for possibly small < 3 stud wide objects) or slanted terrain. (you may drag and drop the zones so that they are perfectly attached to slanted terrain, if you wish) You are allowed to place different zones on top of each other. (If you're not sure about this part, I will take care of it myself)
The ores that each zone spawns are:

- Abundant: Coal, Iron, Silver (close to each player's factory, can cover a large area - should be easy to mine)
- Common: Silver, Bluesteel, some Coal, some Iron (slightly further away from the factories - around halfway between the edges and the center of the baseplate?)
- Uncommon: Bluesteel, Adurite, some Silver (should be placed in the inner 50% of the map)
- Special: Incendia, Glacies, Umbra (ores used to smith bullets with special damaging effects - should also be placed in the inner 50%)
- Rare: Diamond (right in the center of the map - only spawns at night, to ensure fierce battles for the resource)

Some added information:

GlobalShadows are enabled, so you should build with this setting on. Ambient is 0,0,0.

You may build your own mountainous surroundings around the map if you wish, or I will add a default design to it.

If you want your map to have some sort of special scripted effect, you may send the script(s) to me separately. (Reason for this is because I don't want any infections hidden within the maps lol)

I would but I don't have the time since I'm building a game that takes mainly all the time I have on roblox. You're a successful dev so you won't have that much problems finding someone to hire.

Guys, please be sure you fill the entire baseplate with interesting stuff. Add some cool terrain or something, and have an interesting design. There shouldn't be a bunch of completely empty spaces, and you shouldn't be able to shoot across the entire map - I've been getting a number of half-hearted entries.

Put your best effort into it - You'll receive credit in the game and will be paid well, but only if your map is good enough to make it in! If you're not sure where to start, talk to me.

Also, I think the mining zones have been confusing for people - you can leave those out for now, I'll take care of them myself.

I'm building a decent map but might take some time because of my mother, who thinks breaks from school means extra studying and not touching my computer at all. This is a little off topic, but she also gets mad if I exercise and tells me to "stop fooling around"
