I'll be honest with you, I have lost my drive to roleplay this past month. I haven't so much as replied to anything beyond Hwen's and Tim's little DnD thing. Well, I've been looking for a good nuff idea to try to desperately drag me back into RP, and I came up with an odd idea, the likes of which I personally have never seen...
A war RP set in a fantasy universe where you control troops, but not in the format of a NRP. Instead, it works like this:
You are a person in charge of a certain number of troops (Anywhere from 15-25), and you must struggle to gain favor in your empire's eyes and promote yourself in a high rank in the military. However, this empire has a ritualistic military, and one of these rituals is internal conflict, even during a war. By this I mean it's perfectly fine for two people in charge of some men to engage in lethal conflict, even though they're in the same army. The empire believes that by doing this the warriors' strategies are always sharp, the weak are weeded out, and by making alliances and enemies, the lower of leaders prepare themselves for the politics that come with the highest ranks of the army.
Not only will PvP and plotting intricate plans against each other will exist in this RP, however. You will be RPing in the start of a massive war between your empire and another, and occasionally there will be "Events", in which you must set aside your differences, and be prepared to go from small scaled battles to commanding your troops in battles and sieges with numbers going into the thousands. All of it while having the perspective and average RP, and not that of a NRP's.
Not only that, but I will be utilizing an idea I call "Fate". Your Fate can change after an Event. You can promoted should your higher up die, or you could have the unexpected happen to you. Say there was a massive battle with an undead army, and you were killed in the conflict. It does not mean you're dead forever. Well, you are, but your Fate will change, and instead of serving that same empire, you now command the forces of the undead army that killed you.
Just wanted to see how this runs across you guys. This is only a concept, I have yet to start writing it, although, I see a nice number of villains and armies and stories and plots for it. |

Yes. Do it.
"Wouldn't the sentence 'I want to put a hyphen between the words Fish and And and And and Chips in my Fish-And-Chips sign' have been clearer if quotation marks had been placed before Fish, and between Fish and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and And, and And and and, and and and Chips, as well as after Chips?" ~ Martin Gardner |

@Slack
No... wrong setting, wrong theme, even.
@Everyone
Will, sounds like a definite. Will take a while, considering these are days of the finals, and I have to strangle my school computer because it refuses to connect even though the connections show to be perfectly fine, and I have to do an assignment on it that may decide whether or not I fail a class...
The sad part is when I tried to connect to my school google account on my personal computer, it acts like it doesn't even exist. |

isn't that the exact opposite of the purpose of an army though |

The Japanese always hide their thumbs in their pockets as they walk past cemeteries...
The French allow you to marry the dead...
We all have weird traditions. Some are just really, really dumb. |

Why do Japanese hold thumbs in their pockets as they walk by cemeteries?
"Oh no, the Undead Thumb Bandit wants my thumbs!"
But in all seriousness Japanese lore is messed up.
Anyways, on a more related note, sign me up. Now. I want it.

The Japanese believe that exposing the thumb to the dead would bring bad luck.
I can't remember why, though. Perhaps the Japanese word for thumb is the same as dead? One Japanese word can mean a dozen different things, after all. |

if there was a society where it's own armys find each other and instead of maybe combining forces or trading info they just murder each other, that society wouldn't last long
on the other hand stucking your thumbs in your pockets has no negative side effects |

| Well, maybe "stucking" one's thumb into a pocket wouldn't, but we're talking about sticking one's thumb into a pocket. |
