IRISH REPUBLICAN ARMY, ORGANIZATION MANUAL, BELFAST, IRELAND 12/12/14
-
TABLE OF CONTENTS
1 - Active Service Units 2 - Companies 3 - Battalions 4 - Brigades 5 - Units in Combat 6 - Ranks
1 - Active Service Units
Active Service Units, or ASU's, are small units formed with 5-8 men. You will not have a permanent ASU, although you will be assigned to an ASU whenever you are deployed to a security mission, or an operation.
Active Service Units are used to maximize the flexibility of our combat capabilities. By remaining in small numbers, we can strike fast, and without having to worry about transporting an army.
2 - Companies
Companies are larger units, used for organization. Upon leaving the Training Brigade, you will be assigned a Company. This company will be permanent, unless a transfer is performed. Companies will be composed of 4 ASU's, or roughly 20-30 men.
3 - Battalions
Battalions are large units, composed of 5-7 companies. Battalions are permanent, depending on the location you wish to be assigned. They are used just for organization purposes.
4 - Brigades
The IRA is composed of 6 brigades. The Armagh Brigade, The Belfast Brigade, The Derry Brigade, The Donegal Brigade, The Tyrone/Monaghan, and the Training Brigade.
Brigades are used to maintain organization, and maintain activeness. Brigades will have monthly 'wargames' between eachother. Each Brigade will be headed by a Colonel.
5 - Units in Combat
In a combat situation, the only two units you will utilize, are the ASU's and the Company in extreme situations.
The Company will arrive to the 'warzone' and the assigned officer will be required to assign the men into ASU's, PRIOR to going into combat.
You will stay with your assigned ASU until the 'engagement' has finished. Your ASU will be assigned a goal, in coordination with the other ASU's being deployed.
6 - Ranks
Ranks are vital to the organization of the IRA. Listed below are the duties and definitions of all the ranks utilized by the IRA.
[T] Volunteer - A new recruit, still in the Training Brigade. They are tasked with attending a training to promote to the following ranks.
[S] Volunteer - A fresh soldier, right out of training. Security volunteers are tasked with protecting IRA installations, and areas. They are allowed to participate in conflicts, but do not have as much of a chance as the following rank.
[O] Volunteer - A seasoned soldier, whom has been granted the ability to go on operations. Operations are attacks, or missions, and will require a high amount of skill.
[A] Quartermaster - Quartermasters are important members in the IRA. They maintain the means to obtain weaponry to give to the rest of the army. They must have the connections or gamepasses required, and must be in a Security position.
[S] Sergeant - Sergeants are the typical leaders of the IRA. They are tasked with leading an ASU in combat. Security Sergeants are appointed leaders of patrols, guard posts, and just general supervisors of IRA areas.
[O] Sergeant - An Operations Sergeant is a very hard to grab position. Operations Sergeants are constantly tasked with leading ASU's, and are appointed as the supervisor of the Security Sergeant.
[GHQ] Lieutenant - Lieutenants are seasoned soldiers, whom the high ranks are very aware of. They will be tasked with leading companies, and commanding multiple ASU's in combat.
[GHQ] Captain - Captains are seasoned officers with a high amount of intellect, and the ability to make quick decisions. They are permitted to lead their own operations, and will be appointed second in command of a Battalion.
[GHQ] Major - Majors are appointed leaders of a Battalion. Majors are very skilled leaders, and have worked for the IRA for a long amount of time. They are tasked with commanding Captains, and second in command of Brigades.
[GHQ] Colonel - Colonels are appointed leaders of Brigades. They are also assigned second in command of a department, of their choice.
[GHQ] General - Generals are appointed heads of departments. They have the most amount of authority, other than the Chief of Staff.
[GHQ] Chief of Staff - The Chief of Staff is the leader of the IRA, and oversees all operations.
I hope this description of units will be useful to newcomers, and those who require a 'refresher'.
Signed, Daniel Isaacson, Chief of Staff |
