Hello, fellow board members!
As you may know, there are currently two job vacancies, one for the secretary position and the other for an executive director spot. You are allowed to apply for both ranks (just PM me) and current EDs are also allowed to become a secretaries as well, if they seek a change in positions. All essays and secretary tests (which you will receive by messaging me) are due in on Friday the 12th, so be prepared! If you have any additional questions or concerns, don't hesitate to message me and at the end of the forum there are details on what to do if you're interested.
If you don't know what the responsibilities of each position are, read this document as it will hopefully give you a better understanding of what exactly you're applying for.
SECRETARIES
Essentially, the secretary of the board needs to be able to select and summarize key information accurately. The job obviously includes a lot of writing, so if you like literature, this opportunity will provide you with the chance not only to improve upon your skills but also show them off.
Although the use proper grammar is preferred, know that it is not necessary. A secretary should mainly focus on putting the important facts and information onto paper briefly so that it is both understandable and informative, but also not too long for the reader.
Communication is essential as well. During meetings when you're note-taking, your ability to interpret and understand the language which is being used needs to be of a fairly high level. Knowledge about the group generally and management is also useful, so that when you need to discuss any important subjects relevant to Kestrel, you are actually writing words you understand properly, not words that you have just copied.
The basic duties of a secretary may include the following:
- Writing reports for weekly board meetings (so you need to be active at those) - Representing the EM group at important events - Creating important forums - Recording the activity of the board
If you want a step up from the position of a regular director but do not want to work as an ED, this job will certainly give you more experience for the future and it will allow you to have more responsibility.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS
Consider executive directors as "mini vice chairs." They help manage the board, run departments and assist with decision-making. Like secretaries, they also represent the group as experienced individuals with a high level of ability.
Obviously, they need to have a thorough knowledge of the group and should be aware of generally how everything functions. They also have to think about ideas that benefit the board to eliminate threatening concerns and issues.
Essentially, they are leaders; individuals who the other directors can look up to and follow. It is also a part of their job to help the Kestrel community.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU WANT ANY OF THESE POSITIONS, PM ME (FlyKittyFly).
I will send you the secretary test.
For those of you who want to become executive directors, you must write an essay. The prompt is as follows: how can you make the community of Kestrel more welcoming to its newer members?
THE TESTS/ESSAYS ARE IN FOR FRIDAY THE 12TH OF DECEMBER.
The winners will be chosen by me. |
