In the battle for the Paul Bunyan axe, the number 22nd ranked Minnesota Gophers (8-3) take the field against 14th ranked Wisconsin Badgers (9-2). The winner of this game will be slated against the Ohio State Buckeyes, representing the West Division in this year's Big Ten championship. It'll be out in Camp Randell, where Wisconsin has not lost a game this year, also riding a 6 game winning streak. Minnesota coming off a nice win against Nebraska. Melvin Gordon III will be looking to have another breakthrough day, trying to add to his Heisman case. His single game rushing record, which was set only a couple weeks ago, was already broken last week by Oklahoma running back, Samaje Perine. Gordon has rushed for over 2000 yards already this season and continues to show he is the best running back in college football.
Some really big keys to this week's game will be whether the Gophers can control the clock and force turnovers. After holding the ball for over 35 minutes last week against Nebraska, Minnesota showed valued success in controlling the game. Turnovers will help them, but it will be tough sledding against Melvin Gordon. Joel Stave has handled himself well as Quarterback for Wisconsin and we'll see what the game plan is for him. If the run game doesn't work, it will be tough to get the offense going. Similarly, Mitch Leidner, who looks like he plays better every week, looks like he will need to have a big day against this defense of Wisconsin. I definitely think he can put up some big numbers, with short to intermediate passes down the middle of the field.
We'll see how it wraps up, it will be a very important rivalry game! |

| How loud the crowd is. A lot of Wisconsin fans are in the Bahamas and students are off for break. Lots of Gopher fans are going to the game also. But this previewed it well. We need turnovers and we have to stop gordon. We need Mitch to have a near perfect game and we have to intregate Maxx William, K.J Maye and Donahvan Jones. David Cobb is hurt and same with our 2nd string running back Berkley Edwards. If Donnel Kirkwood can have a 100 yard game that would be great. Jerry Kill will have this team ready. The gopher crowd has been waiting for a game like this since 1962. |
