Back in December 2009, Avatar opened up to a $77 Million on it's first weekend. Not the most impressive weekend when you compare it to Marvel's The Avengers $207 Million opening back in 2012.
But unlike many other films, Avatar maintained momentum over it's run. Many films just drop -50% on it's second weekend, while dropped -1.6%. The film later set records for the largest third, fourth, fifth, and sixth opening weekends. Like previously released Titanic, it was opened on the same weekend.
Here's one film I think has the chance.
Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens...
It opens the same weekend December 18, 2015
However, it has to beat those films internationally too.

| probably Starwars is going to beat pants off Avatar at the box office, since it's absurdly overhyped imo |
