1. nobody or at least very, VERY few people here actually know how to run a website AND can pay for hosting so for most of us the only option is to use a free forum host which can end up being full of security issues etc.
2. when people make rules they're either way too strict and it ends up being worse than the current site or way too lenient and it just ends up being entirely trashposting, arguments and links to shock sites
3. a lot of people take moderation as a privilege rather than a responsibility and this ends up tieing in with point 2 and this isn't helped by the fact that i've never actually seen anyone hire moderators in any way other than through nepotism or just saying 'first 3 posters get to be mods
4. nobody on this site is civil enough to actually agree on one site because they don't like the owner or one of the mods or whatever and so they make their own site and run both sites into the ground
5. i've never seen anyone say 'i'm making an ot spinoff' and NOT release it within 48 hours which says a lot about the amount of thought and development which actually goes into these things
in conclusion if you're thinking 'hey i should make an ot spinoff' and you're not willing to put any actual effort into it then punch yourself in the face repeatedly until that thought is completely dead and gone because the last thing OT needs is another one of the stupid things |

i think another problem is that you're basically creating an environment like ot but with less posts, it's just slow and boring. also if you just have two or three core members that may as well just chat it's bound to collapse i've only seen one success to date and even then it's got barely any activity now |

that sorta ties in with point number 4
even if you're 'popular' there'll be a significant proportion of OT that'll just say 'no, they did something stupid at one point, i don't trust them' so |

even if there's a significant portion that says no, you'll still have lots of people who will flock there
what I want to say is, it's easy to get people to join, but nearly impossible for people to stay what happens if you get a large group of shy, introverted people who respond rather than create? you get a very short lived forum |

Often the problem with them for me is how bloated they are, with users who hardly ever post or just made an account so they could say how crappy the website was and leave without even giving it a chance. What would fix that is having join requests and people provide their identity, so you don't have a bunch of random unwanteds joining the website.
Also, many of them are clunky and uncomfortable to use. That's one of the greatest things about Roblox forums; they're simple to use and attractive. You'd need a fun forum with plenty to do to keep people using it. |
