I listen to all music, hard rock, country, pop, a little rap.
But I never understood why people like metal.
I'm not talking the metal that you can understand most of it, i'm talking the metal that you don't even know what they are saying unless you pay close attention.(not the corous)
Can you give me one legit reason? |

their is a great atmosphere to genres like atmospheric black metal, funeral doom, etc.
I think you shouldn't be closeminded about stuff, why does understanding what people are saying matter? |

| Are you referring to screamo? Not all metal is like that. I'm listening to Anthrax right now and I can understand the lyrics perfectly well. |

Apparently, all music is hard rock, country, pop, and a little bit of rap.
You don't know jack to be talking about metal is such a generalizing way.

you clearly don't know what screamo is
screamo has nothing to do with hot topic deathcore, metalcore, and post hardcore bands like asking alexandria, suicide silence, etc.
screamo also doesn't have anything to do with metal
screamo is an abrasive style of emo, which is a genre that came out of the DC Hardcore scene in the 80s |

Oh no, he thinks I haven't listened to screamo
Quick, alert city hall, we've gotta evacuate Vancouver - we've got a level five badass omniscient over here.
I'm not going to roll over and name the bands for you, and if I did, right off the bat you would claim that I googled "screamo bands" |

"I was just referring to examples"
State some bands you don't understand. That is, if you have even listened to metal. We can understand it because were use to it. And not understanding the person singing isn't a valid reason to not like metal. There is more to metal than just singing, such as guitar riffs and all the other instruments that actually make the non-fake music. |

I don't really think he's being closeminded due to the fact that he stated that he enjoys a variety of music but just can't get into metal. |

Metal is alright, but that's judging from my really low knowledge on it.

I think you should stop posting
and all of these genres aren't exactly a variety, he was saying "you can't understand the vocals (which isn't even true) so it isn't good" |

Harsh vocals are an acquired taste, no doubt about that. For awhile I would only listen to Symphonic, Power or traditional Heavy Metal because they have almost exclusively clean vocals. Any time I heard a Death Metal song it just sounded like white noise to me.
But eventually I got into some Melodic Death Metal, Insomnium I believe, and after that I gradually got into more and more sub genres with harsh vocals. Now I listen to basically every harsh vocal sub-genre except Grindcore and Brutal Death Metal.
And as some other people have said here, after awhile it gets easier to decipher what they're saying, but if you don't give it that "awhile" then you're never going to get to a point where you understand what they're saying. |

I don't like the kind of metal where it's just incomprehensible screaming.
The only metal band I listen to is Disillusion. |

Early In Flames songs are easy-ish to understand if anyone is looking for some practice understanding harsh vocals

"metal that you can't understand anything but the corous."
sounds like generic whiney scene metalcore aka not metal
anyways you don't need to know the vocals (which you get better at understanding the longer you listen to them) to appreciate the music
