School should focus mainly on education and academics such as math, science, language, social studies; perhaps art and music, although I'm against this as well. Because playing games where only a few people (who probably do sports outside of school anyways) are active and the rest of the people are standing around cuts time where a person could master their German or Calculus seems unnecessary. Face it, no one takes Physical Education seriously, and running the mile twice a school year or a push up test once a school year isnt going to help anybody's fitness.

I'd have to disagree to a certain degree.
Although the individual may not realize it immediately, conveying "Physical Education" in an interesting and collaborative way creates an environment that encourages academic students to slowly develop an efficient routine for fitness.
Although, I would agree that physical activity that minimal will have very limited effects. |

Our teacher makes us go 6 v 6 in football. I have no idea how to play, so I just stand there while the really sporty kids go at it like a bunch of hooligans.

oh yes, someone spokeup!
Gym doesnt feel educational, it just feels like something to help you lose weight. However, a few things:
1. Only a few people in my class are fat and
2. Nobody else needs it. If you're the appropriate weight for your age, why are you still forced to do it?
Some could still get a good degree while not being fit. Just look at some people. Gym should be an optional thing at most. |

it's good to keep in shape but it's not like a teacher should be able to flunk you for getting tired after a full 60 minutes of jogging
it shouldn't be a requirement of graduation |

| What a surprise! Someone from the country with a 40% obesity rate among adults wants PE class to be optional. How do you think that will work out? Let's be honest, for most American kids, PE class is the only physical activity they have all week. Not making it mandatory would just make more kids become obese. |

| Physical Education shouldn't be removed from school because children need exercise to get more energy. In addition, you need 60 minutes of physical activity a day. I disagree that it should be removed being a school subject. |

"B-but I love Gym class!"
There are options to take it as electives; however in the middle and elementary level, it is required, which is what I find absolutely pointless. If it is taken as an elective, it is up to that person to decide whether they will take the class seriously.
"Do you know what effect it'd have on our fellow Americans? (especially certain groups)"
None, especially since the kids who enjoy sports try them outside of school anyways, and people who hate them will not go out and do the activities anyways.
"Although the individual may not realize it immediately, conveying "Physical Education" in an interesting and collaborative way creates an environment that encourages academic students to slowly develop an efficient routine for fitness."
I would actually say that it is equally likely to discourage people, making them feel inferior to others. I actually want to say that I felt encouraged to develop an efficient routine only after I joined the Cross Country team. The only reason I did so was because of my parent's urging.

| Another addition, you can also exercise at a local gym or at your home. I'm still saying that Physical Education shouldn't be removed considering there are certain units in Physical Education. Last year, we just played dodgeball. |

@ezt I'm Japanese actually, and a pretty good Cross Country runner. @vivid/Snow/GTA you illustrate my point exactly @iiMarsh maybe if they actually do physical activities that everyone can benefit from, not the people who are already on a million sports teams @SMS perhaps your school could influence others to promote physical activeness to other PE classes

"I hate PE lessons and that girls changing room is not a safe enviroment.."
When we have away games on basketball or volleyball, us boys always have to change in the girls changeroom. It's a worse environment then your area. Us individuals have to change where people leave their stuff in the middle of the floor. Some changerooms I even see chewed up pieces of gum on the floor which is disgusting. Some of the changing rooms even reek too. |

That's certainly accurate, It's a matter of how it's being implemented, essentially.
If the environment is centered around the most physiologically stable students receiving beneficial effects, It's likely going to result in a negative and discouraging experience for the students attempting to acquire actual knowledge from it.
