As a fan of the game in both North America and Europe, I can safely say that it won't be a Top 5 in ten years, nor will it likely ever get there. I'm not saying it's impossible but it's not going to happen for a long time.

the only way the mls will ever become a top-5 league is if they somehow convince uefa to let the usa join the uefa confederation and let them play in europe.

if they don't do that, they will always be a mediocre league. besides, players want to play against the likes of real madrid, barcelona, manchester united and bayern munich, not real salt lake and kansas city.

With the right owners and right amount of money and possible reorganizations that may increase fan and player interest, they could become a great league outside of Europe. Like I said, it's going to most likely take a very long time, but the United States is a good market for the game no matter how much you attempt to deny it. The interest for the game is growing at record high levels in North America.

Everything you're saying can also be used to make arguments for leagues in The Middle East, Brazil, China, Japan, South Korea and India. None of those countries will ever get a top level league, and neither will the USA.

Brazil's league is better than most of the 50-something leagues in Europe that are the top level of a country and a club from that league has won the Club World Cup. I'm aware that the Club World Cup is a bit of an irrelevant tournament but you cannot deny that winning that against a top European team is top-level. This is the only league you listed that can even be argued as being better than MLS.

The Middle East, with their money and bribery skills, could attract the best Middle Eastern players as well as maybe some world class players to play in some gulf state with their oil money but they're not very likely to get a top league.

India just went through a massive restructuring of their system to improve the game there and attracted some notable players from around the world to come there (mostly really old players who were once good like David James and Freddie Ljungberg). While it's low-quality and largely experimental for now, I'm interested to see what it will produce within the next twenty years.

We're talking about Top-5 Leagues, not all the leagues in Europe. And it's not arguable that Brazil's league is better than the MLS, it's fact that Brazil's league is better than the MLS. I haven't seen an MLS club produce a Pele yet.

"bribery skills"

Please get actual proof before saying that. Also, The Middle East has gotten more world class players than the MLS. Asamoah Gyan, Lucas Mendes (from Marseille), Vladimir Weiss and a lot of others all play in the Middle East and they're far from bad players. And what about Omar Abdulrahaman? He's a better footballer than any USA player in the MLS.

Google it, actual proof is all over the internet.

"Also, The Middle East has gotten more world class players than the MLS. Asamoah Gyan, Lucas Mendes (from Marseille), Vladimir Weiss and a lot of others all play in the Middle East and they're far from bad players."

MLS will get David Villa, Kaká, and Frank Lampard. They've also gotten David Beckham, Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane, and Thierry Henry. All of these players were better when coming into MLS than anyone you just listed has ever been, and most of these still are.

"And what about Omar Abdulrahaman? He's a better footballer than any USA player in the MLS."

You've clearly never heard of Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Chris Wondolowski, Lee Nguyen, Gyasi Zardes, Brad Davis, or Nick Rimando.

the internet also says that jews caused 9/11 and that jfk was shot by a hitman hired by nixon.

Did any of them join MLS in their prime when they were still world-class players? No. I'm not sticking up for the Middle Eastern leagues (I actually think that it's where careers go to die), but the players in them that came over from Europe were still in their prime and ready to go. All the players you listed were over 30 and going there for a final pay check.

"You've clearly never heard of Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Chris Wondolowski, Lee Nguyen, Gyasi Zardes, Brad Davis, or Nick Rimando."

Has any of them been linked to Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City? No. Last time I checked, Mr. Omar even had a 4 year deal offered to him from Manchester City. If you think any of those players are better than Omar Abdulrahaman, then it's clear you've never watched him play and that you're just talking out of your ass.

Hell, even Jurgen rips on the MLS and the quality of the league. At least he has sense.

Congratulations, you found two absolutely ridiculous conspiracy theories with no evidence to back them up, as opposed to the loads of evidence supporting the theory of the Middle East having loads of bribery power in footy.

Yet they were still better than any of the players who joined the Middle Eastern leagues were in their prime.

Landon Donovan has played for Bayern Munich, and I'd also like to point out that another American in the form of a young Julian Green is signed to them as well. Simply being linked to a club doesn't necessarily mean that they're a world class player. If Abdulrahman was really this good, he should be dominating the hell out of Asia like another player linked to European clubs long ago did to Brazil's league: Pelé. But he's not, nor is he even the best player on his club. Asamoah Gyan is.

"If you think any of those players are better than Omar Abdulrahaman, then it's clear you've never watched him play and that you're just talking out of your ass."

Except that I know quite well who Omar Abdulrahman is, I know how he plays, I do think most of those players are better than him, and I'm not the only one who does either. Am I saying he's bad? No, I'm not, he's a good player, but you are making him sound like Asia's version of Lionel Messi.

"Hell, even Jurgen rips on the MLS and the quality of the league. At least he has sense."

What you're actually talking about is Klinsmann ripping on players for returning to the MLS as opposed to staying in Europe's top 8 leagues because the quality of it as of right now isn't as great as those European leagues. In fact, he has also admitted that the MLS is getting better every year and that he wants future players to grow in that environment.
